Look what i am reacquiring this morning! :hyper: I had to sell this a year ago to pay some bills to a guy on the other side of the state and have regretted it since. I put out a want add for some trace gear and lo and behold the guy I sold it to offered to sell it back to me for the same price I sold it to him for! In my little world the AH1200SM is the greatest bass amp ever produced! I know Ill never find one in this area and id probably have to drive half way across the country to by one, but id love to put this thing through a trace 810 cab.

Very nice! Even though I'm an SWR convert, I still gotta hand it to Trace Elliot... in fact I'm in the middle of re-acquiring my old beat-up-but-still-kicking 1048, red-stripe era...

I took the amp out of its case to clean it out, i forgot about this, but the first time I owned this amp (I originally got it about 4 years ago) I took it apart to blow it out and forgot about the amp on the side. It was odd to me then as it is now that the fan is on the side of the amp, and only air it can pull in is through the gap between the side of the amp and the side of the box. Seems like they would have put some vents in the box for better ventilation. I guess the knew what they were doing, it was built in 94 and is still going strong!

Edit: I noticed that the box appears to be made form mdf, but looks like it has layers like plywood??? (I didnt know mdf was multi-ply showing my ignorance I guess ) are 1153 cabs made out of the same material??

Oddly the 1153s, and many of the not-so-old cabs are MDF. That head, I don't know, seems that one wouldn't bother laminating MDF... I'd think that if it looks like plywood, it is plywood...

From the side it looks ply woodish though the layers are really thin, on the surface its definitely msd or particle board at least that's what it looks like on the inside of the box, ill know more when I get the tolex off of it.

Oh yeah I dont care if it was made out of plastic it all it does is hold the head. I took a handle off one of the cabs, they're mfd as well, but they're solid as a rock and sound great! Now that I got the cover off the amp cab time to drill and dowel stripped screw holes and reinforce the rails! Gonna take the head to work and spray the dust out and clean the pots. I dont know where its been in the year that I haven't owned it, but the innards look like they've been in a sandstorm. It's amazing what that fan pulls into the chassis.

Cool man- go get 'em! I can't even imagine how loud that thing must be able to get... that's a good era though. Way to be, scoring it back.

Yeah its wierd to feel like you have limitless power. :D Seriously ive ran a marshall out of the room with this thing and these 2 15's it was even louder with an ampeg fridge, I can even imagine running 4 of those at once! I just hope nothing ever happens to that transformer thats in it, I imagine i wont be cheap to replace!

I try and avoid talking about those characteristics of MDF to people who have stuff made of it. It's one of the things that has caused me to actually steer clear of the 90s era Trace cabs... except the 1048 I'm getting back in a couple weeks... :p
