the TRACE ELLIOT thread: Part II

I try and avoid talking about those characteristics of MDF to people who have stuff made of it. It's one of the things that has caused me to actually steer clear of the 90s era Trace cabs... except the 1048 I'm getting back in a couple weeks... :p

eh I look at it like this, these cabs are around 20 years old, and nothing detrimental has happened yet so I doubt there going to fall apart any time soon (knock on wood (solid wood that is :)). If it does oh well, only paid 300 bucks for the pair. Another little tidbit about the head that I forgot about, its pretty much impossible overload the front end. Even with a bass with an 18v pre, to even remotely get the clip light to come on the pre gain has to be on 10.

Hmmm, the temptation :p...

There's a TE-cab for sale in my region. It seems to be for sale for a while without any replies or bids. Maybe I can get a good price for it.

It's a 2x10 with what seem to be two midrange drivers. Any information on this cab? Is it any good?

I'm still looking for a "small-ish" cab that would suit my synth+bass projects.

It's the 2103, I guess. Never tried it but I know it's a very good cab, used by Mark King in the past. Should be nicer than standard 2x10" with tweeters. They can be found for pretty low prices, not light (28kg or so) but should be worth the hassle.

I want to put in a plug for British audio service, Shane is awesome, he went beyond the call of duty to answer some schematic questions for me and I got pretty much everything I needed to re-do my AH1200SM's case for pretty darn cheap!

Big +1, there! Coincidentally, Shane recently refurb'd my AH1200SM, as well. :bassist:

So thats really a light behind the little panel where its written "AH400". Wasn't sure, I'll change mine so my amp will look even more awesome.

Also, reporting in, got this little monster two days ago:

Anyone ever own/see a TE 1x10 cab w/tweeter? There's one available near me that I was considering for practicing at home and for using as a monitor for our drummer (I would run it off the 100 watt output side of my GK 800rb). Thoughts or opinions?

Just trying to justify the seemingly high price the owner wants for it ($200). I've seen 2x10's go for 250; there are other cabs near me for much less but I like the small size of the 1x10.

I'm not totally opposed to investing that much if it meets my needs perfectly - to me that's the best deal, even if it's a little more than what I want to pay. The bottom line is getting the job done, trying to do it less expensively is a bonus.

If $$ were no object I'd pick up one of the PJB cabs at BassCentral, like the 4b suitcase extension or the 6t they have. Now where's my Gas-X for bass equipment - thought I had it around here somewhere...

I have two older Trace Elliot 1x10's. One has a tweeter and one does not. They are pretty good cabs, IME/IMHO.

Looks like my ah1200 is going to be a learning tool for a while, turns out mines been molested a bit (one of the fan control circuits is on the fritz) waiting on parts to rebuild that circuit (a whopping 12 bucks) and I think a relay is sticking on one channel during power down. Think I'm gonna go ahead and do a recap too. I'm having a blast with it though! It's provided me and an engineer I work under lots of nerd fun during break times!
