What's better then a Trace Elliot V-Type preamp? Two of them! :D
Just got the 5001 head as well. Pleasantly surprised with it.

Looks like I am not the only one with a Trace V6 head after all! I'll need to take a picture to post here. A couple of questions:

1) Has anybody else put 6550's in the power section instead of KT-88's? I am about ready to retubes again and am trying to decide if it is worth spending 2x the $ to put KT-88's back in when the 6550's sound great. BTW i have gotten ten years of moderate playing on the Sovtek 6550WE's that Fat Willy (in Denver) put in back in the 90's.
2) What manufacturer made the original tubes?

I think it might be time for a change haha....when I bought my V6 used it came with 6550s in it. Iused them for about 6 months and it sounded good, but I replaced them with Sovtek KT88s. All my fuses blew, and then my power transformer died, but that might have been coincidental. The point is, IMO the KT88s are noticeably louder and clearer. Especially harmonics. Just get a set of JJs from Eurotubes....pretty cheap for some great tubes.

So I've been keeping count and I MAY be wrong, but without repeating V-types that have been owned by several people on here, we have:

2 V4s
6 V6s
2 V8s
4 V-type preamps (including mine which I haven't posted a picture yet)
2 V-type 300Hs
and 2 600 Hs

COME ON PEOPLE!! Let's see some more! I know some people personally on TB who have V-types and haven't joined in the fun!

Still haven't taken a photo to truely do it justice yet, but here's an older one from the day I got it, dust and all:

You may need to edit the V6 count. The one I changed the grille on is off somewhere in ebay land, and it was previously owned by Demon666.

That is the answer from TE:

We do not have the manufacturing records, they have been lost over time. I have asked our engineer who was involved in the developement of the V series and he belives about 1000 where made of the original MKI V6 and probably no more than 200 of the MKII V8.
