Hi all,

I'm looking for the audio files of the wonderful shootout done by dreamland studios with tony levin:

Invalid Link Removed

Does anyone has the files for upload?

It will help me and I think the whole bass community here....

1- The Evil Twin
2- The Retrospec Juice Box
3- The A Designs Invalid Link Removed
4- The TAB V71
5- The Invalid Link Removed
6- The Radial JDV (active)
7- The Radial Invalid Link Removed (passive)
8- The Radial "Firefly" Tube DI
9- The Countryman 85
10- The Invalid Link Removed (with stock transformer in it)
11- The Whrilwind Director (with Jensen transformer)
12- The Invalid Link Removed
13- A Neve 33122 module (Tony wanted this in there as he sometimes uses it an

Two things:
1. I would really like the original files to be available again.
2. To me it just makes "that" difference. there are two main components to your basic recording chain: the audio to digital converter and your preamp. In your basic sound device they are piled together.

Yeah youtube audio can suck, but if it was recorded in HD, and you watch in HD, then the audio will come down as HD.

Many audio interfaces has excellent pre-amps and A/D. It doesn't matter if they're "piled together" as long as they both are excellent. Just a point in case somebody else thinks they need a DI, and they forget to test what they already have.

Wow I just got lightly trashed about this shootout. Love the reality of this shootout. I thought I heard they were using a Neve Board. Model Unknown.
Knowing which is which will influence your decision which is why I didn't want to know.

After listening to these over the last couple of days with cans and monitors I think I've come to the following:

Tube DI'S my preference would be
REDDI
Evil Twin
Juicebox

Of those three I like the weight of mid content of the REDDI best. I liked the spacial feel of the Juicebox best. The Evil Twin is a good mix of the two.

For the non-tube DI's I liked the Avalon then JDI. The tube DI'S have a rounder tone which I personally prefer.

For top place it would be tough. Probably the Evil Twin. I like the coloration I hear in the tube preamps more than the more neutral non-tube DI's. Some might say subtle but it's there and more pleasing. Just that little bit extra special grunt that will do well in a mix.

I've put 15 DI's through my own shootout though here: Tube Preamp/DI Sound Samples — Noble, Oracle, P-15, Super Stack, REDDI, Tonecraft, Fatboy...

Useful Arts
RNDI
Oracle
Fatboy etc etc

I need to upload samples of the Evil Twin still. I've got a lot of DI'S in the music room right now. :thumbsdown:
