In fairness, I use effects with one band I play with, but only one band and that's it, and I use 'em sparingly. I think Tim Commerford and alike has clearly had a big influence on a lot of people on this board.

If people couldn't justify having X amount of pedals, they wouldn't use them, I would think...:rolleyes: I personally don't think it matters if one is influenced by an effects player or not, if you have a use for a given effect/s, use it.

i admittedly have more effects than i need. if you want to talk fundamentals.... i could easily plug straight into the amp and rock out.
i don't NEED any effects. but i like them alot.
i like all the cool possibilities.
that, and i've always been into crazy noizicianship.
(i do use every pedal on my board in my band... but it's almost always a subtle thing. i try my best not to get in the way of the music, or the overall point we're trying to get across. if i push it too far, my band lets me know. by the way: Link Removed )

Yeah I think tha if you are playing effects JUST FOR THE SAKE OF HAVING EFFECTS and not incorporating them wisely into your music, than it is fairly absurd. Saying that, this is what is currently on my two boards Warwick Boards:

1. DOD Bass Grunge FX-69 (mainly used for soundscaping)
2. Prescription Electronics Depth Charge (for distortion)
3. Digitech Whammy II
4. Electroharmonix POG
5. Boss BF-3 Flanger
6. Digitech Synth Wah
7. Boss SYB-5
8. Boss RC20 Loop Station
9. Palthegiraffe Barf Bag (only 5 in existence) (crazy mod rings, robotic sounds, self oscillation, chorus, etc.)
10. Effector 13 Feedback Loop Oscillator (10 in existence)- this pedal has no sound of its own- it warps other pedals sounds that are through the loop- it also doubles as a bypass
11. Boss/ Roland V-300L (Dedicated Volume)
12. Boss/ Roland V-300L (Dedicated Expression)
* Specially made Knob Selector for expression pedal selects what pedal I want to use the expression with on the fly

I will also be getting 4 more pedals (and than come to a screeching halt- I SWEAR!!!!):
14. Electro Harmonix Holier Grail (I think- also looking into other reverbs)
15. Some sort of Delay (I like TC Electronics but it is pricey)
16. Mid-Fi Electronics Glitch Computer
17. Danelectro Back Talk (this is a reverse pedal)

Now, one might look at this and find this absolutely ridiculous. However, I use effects 40% of the time. When I do, half of that time it is like all hell breaks loose, or at least very beautiful soundscapes are created. And the other half maybe an effect or two is turned on. Or I will loop a noise track or soundscape and push it off to the background as I play something clean over it , or vice versa.

I absolutely love doing such, and I appreciate playing completely clean even more so when I am not using these sonic tools.

I do like stompboxes, but when you go over the top with a signal chain like the one in the first post I just couldn't live with all the background noise.

Ah, if only somebody could make absolutely silent pedals that had zero suck effect on tone...

There was a thread similar to this awhile back, I posted, killed it, and now its somewhere in the abyss of TalkBass. So if this one starts to die, someone else give it CPR.

But things have changed (believe it or not simplified) since last time:

There have been several threads similar to this thread. Why this year old thread was bumped I have no idea.

Besides, the idea of a "dream" pedalboard is a bit funny to me. If you know what pedals you want, then just slowly save up and buy them. But I don't think that's the case a lot of times. People see expensive pedals or hear others give them glowing reviews and figure that they are the end-all, be-all. I love TalkBass, but I've noticed far too often people recommending pedals to other people that they have never played themselves.

And I'm not talking about "I've heard that the English Muff'n can get the tones you're talking about, you should look into one" type posts, but people advocating that others spend their money on a pedal that they haven't played with themselves. Or simply recommending a pedal because it's what they themselves have without really considering what the poster is asking for.
