I don't get it? If he's got a reciept(which I assume OP does) for the Packing & Shipping & insuring of his bass, wouldn't that be evidence enough that the store is responsible and, at the very least, cover the insured amount?

theres a good chance that a driver grabbed it by mistake and it's safe and sound in a van or warehouse now.........the store guy is probably waiting to see if it turns up before forming a posse.....best not to flip out just yet, there's time forI don't get it? Guy, I just checked your profile and see that you're viewing the thread. What's the latest?
\......no because it was handed to him ..........however the wife probably knows to ask for pre/post judgement interest, costs etc.....even this board can be printed out and used as evidence,as well as the sale board, emails from the buyer etc....make sure you send emails documenting that you asked to see the camera footage to the ups store to use later... anything else you asked for,and anything he told youJust tell him your wife is a lawyer and that if you don't see him cooperating that you will proceed to file a lawsuit, and that he will not only have to pay the cost of the bass, but legal fees/emotional distress/time you spent sorting it out/whatever else you can thinks of.
Really annoys me when people don't take responsibility for there actions, i can understand that UPS won't take responsibility, they are a big company and can do whatever they can to weasle out of things, but when you are dealing with an actualy person, face to face, it disgusts me that he can say 'its not my fault'.
With the whole not letting you see the security footage ect. methinks mr UPS branch operator was in the market for a new bass...
Will the police investigate it if you tell him he stole it?
Marrying a lawyer was probably a REALLY good idea!
That's rough...
These are Mom and Pop 'private' businesses in my experience-UPS Pack and Ship. Anyway, my experiences are watching them box it up in front of me, insure it, and place it in the outgoing area. Then before leaving, I've paid, observed the pack and closing of the boxes, gathered my copy of the shipper form, and register receipt.

No good news. Police won't get involved because they say it's a civil matter. They will get involved if the store owner will claim it's been stolen. Store owner still claiming it's " lost" and won't file a police report. He refused to show me his security footage or let me inspect the rear of the store. He told me that the box and shipping labels are still at the store, so only the bass and case are "lost". He says he thinks the UPS driver picked it up, which I don't believe for a second. He tried 3 times to give me a refund for the shipping and packing cost, which I refused. When I told him he'd have to replace the bass, he started questioning the value, and even inferred that the case was empty. He started this " I have no liability, talk to ups" bs.
and neither will a judge.to them it's a commodity with a value like any other doodadA big problem with trying to get anyone involved, outside of a musician is, "outsiders" don't know, or care, how much some of these instruments are worth. A dollar value or sentimentally. The day after "my" UPS guy messed up my delivery, he had the decency to come to my door and make sure I was ok and apologized, but you can tell that he thought I was WAY overreacting.
They just don't get it!

I've given him until 10:00 to produce my bass or claim it stolen to the police. At 10:15 my wife, an attorney, will begin the process to sue his ass. She's drawing up the papers tonight. In the interim, I'm calling everyone in UPS I can reach.
