Please keep us posted on what UPS says, and perhaps, in a couple of weeks, send a friend with a video camera to the store to see if there are any changes, notices, or hopefully the store is Locked up and shut down.

I've discovered the the recorder on my iPhone works very well. I recorded the whole conversation.

Not admissable in legal proceedings, but I'll bet UPS corporate will be quite interested...

A quick google of UPS and theft came up with alot of pages of people being ripped off by UPS.

one in particular about a telecaster being stolen, really parralelled this thread. unfortunately he didn;t get his guitar back.

Amazing thread; so glad that you got your bass back!

The UPS store I deal with employ great people. Im on a first name basis with the owner and we chat it up everytime Im in there and we're both on a first name basis etc. Ive shipped through them to Australia and all over the states without a single problem.

It really just sounds like the guy you were dealing with was a complete ass. Please keep us updated on your further pursuits towards this guy!

so today was my first and last time at a ups store. I usually go to a mom and pop who do ups fedex usps etc, but it's way out of the way. I had to get a bass shipped out and was short on time. Shipping was $27 which wasn't bad, but 39.99 plush 4.50 to pack it was really frustrating. Seriously? A $40 dollar box?

I don't think you need much of an in to get a box. I just ask the local GC if they have any boxes. They're just going to throw the things away if you don't take them.

I guess I was referring more to the clerk as well as getting a better rate for the actual shipping.

well I know that if they don't pack it, they won't cover insurance, or at least there is a decent chance they won't, so I didn't want to take a chance. I don't think UPS governs the price of packing materials at the UPS stores, being that they are franchisees.

Whoa. Now THATS a great situation you've got there. The commercial rates for FedEx and UPS are just so much cheaper that what schmucks like me have to pay. I die inside a little each time I ship a bass at full retail.
