The UPS Store has "lost" my bass!

Glad you got the bass back and that you are not done dealing with this dirt bag.

"UPS is pissed at me" - They better be. Something is fishy. If you are going to keep pushing this on the civil side, I hope the security tapes show up so you can see exactly what happened.

Well, the cops have the security tapes, but they were on a 2 hour loop, so the bass was long gone during the last two hours.

Which is why he stalled...

First - AWESOME that you have your bass back.
Second - taking this up with UPS corporate is definitely the Right Thing to do.
This was just a scummy experience for you, and the scum-dealer needs to be accountable beyond "here's your bass, now you're banned from my store".

The UPS Store in my hometown (Fairfield, CA) is a ripoff.

I can't for the life of me figure out why the shipping charges between UPS and Fedex are so out of whack.

I shipped a Berg NV215 several months ago to AZ. UPS wanted nearly $150, Fedex was $86.00.

Since UPS stores are privately owned do they add fees over the actual cost of shipping? This has happened for other items as well and always Fedex is 25%-45% cheaper.

Since I'm pursuing corporate action against the store, I don't want to name the specific store right now.

I've probably shipped 20 basses this store. I can't believe the way he acted. He certainly hasn't heard the last from me.
good on ya',and keep us up to speed..... the guy is not firing on all eight and should not be given a pass to do it to someone else....he obviously knows who did it

The store is just a few minutes from my home, so I jumped in my car and raced to get it. When I got there, the bass was in the case and leaning up against the wall. The owner of the store was standing about 10 feet away. When I got there, I said thanks for finding it and asked him where it was. He just shook his head and said "I don't owe you any answers. I told you not to call the cops. Now UPS corporate is pissed at me!"

I find it funny that he was trying to blame you for how everything was turning out. Good luck with this. I hope you nail him in court. :bassist:

I got a call from the store owner...... He said "I told you we'd find your bass.

What the owner really meant: 'Cause I knew where it was all the time. My nephew needed if for a gig last night so I let him borrow it.

My guess is that someone in the store took the bass and was using it. .....I know that many of the owner's family members work there, so I'm guessing he's covering for one of them.

Ya think?

And you also get the honor of being "banned for life" from his store for standing up for yourself.

Great guy.

I'd write a letter to UPS detailing everything and let them get more pissed at him for being such a douche.

Let UPS know that you'll be switching to FEDX.

Great news about getting the bass back!

I think I would still be talking to UPS Corporate and telling them what transpired when you recovered the bass, he needs to be held accountable in some manner for his actions and if that means losing his franchise then so be it.

Another big +1. That guy was definitely in on something; if not I'd assume he would be more than helpful trying to find out what happened to it in the first place. His actions after he "found it" don't help his case. Probably pissed now that he can be in deep trouble if you keep pushing this case. What an ***hole. Good for you for standing your ground with him.

Let them know about the bass being defined and a pick in the case. Explain to them the corelation of the downtuning and the pick and how it's not your doing

Another +1. That's disgraceful. That UPS store has no right to be in business after shenanigans like this.

the whole bass was tuned down exactly one step and there was a pick in the case. I have no reason to tune down a 5 string bass and I never play with a pick. In addition, the allen wrench in the case was missing

Busted!

My guess is that someone in the store took the bass and was using it. I've used this store alot in the past, and I know that many of the owner's family members work there, so I'm guessing he's covering for one of them

Yep

Good to hear you've let UPS Corporate know about all of this. Hopefully this (expletive deleted) will lose his franchise like he so richly deserves

I'm glad you're going the extra mile to nail his balls to the wall. Most people, after getting the bass back, would have driven home, happy as hell. It takes guts to take the time to deal with UPS and give him what he deserves. If this is common business practice, he deserves to have to work for someone else to try and figure out the virtues of honesty and treating the customer with respect.
