The Valenti Megathread (Mk. II)

Not to be a **** or to start anything, but what does Nino actually do when "building" his basses? I know the necks and bodies are outsourced to whoever, but what about paint and finishing? Do you do that yourself Nino? Do you route the cavities for the pups and controls? Do you drill the holes for the tuners? I imagine you do the final fret work, but do you install the frets?

I'm just wondering because I'd like to know how much "hands on" work you do.

I mean, hell, I'd love to own one of your basses just for the headstock (I REALLY dig it)!

When I receive the necks and bodies, they are already finished.

For Standard styled basses, (No pickguard or control plate) I lay out the control holes. If needed, I route pickup cavities (#062, #065 and #067) but most of the time I receive them routed.

Vintage Styles basses, I make the p/g's, route the top control cavity hole.

Necks are fretted but get leveled and re-crowned.

Lay out bridges.

If you're really curious about this, you should talk to Nino in PM and not call him out in a thread devoted to his work...

I wasn't trying to call him out. I just wondered what he does or doesn't do to his basses (as I'm sure a lot of people are/were). He shouldn't hide or be embarrassed about it.

ahhh...come on, Nino...you're being modest...

Your control wiring is some of the neatest you'll find ANYWHERE, you set them up completely and make sure everything is absolutely PERFECT...

...finally, you run them through the patented East Coast Valenti Mojo Oven (aka the "ECoVaMO") and out pops 4 or 5 strings of bass heaven...

HAHAH. It's an Ibanez TR in Trans Red. It was my 3rd bass and my 1st 5 string.
