The Valenti Megathread Part III

SWEET SLIZA! Nice bass. In that config with the black bridge, the black pickup covers, no poles pieces, NICE! But wait until you play it! It wont be so stealthy! 
I finally had a chance to A/B my Lakland JO and Valenti, fitted with the same AERO pickups. Its amazing how "jazzy" they both sound, yet how different. The lighter Valenti clearly has a more "dense and woody" sound than the much heavier Lakland, in acoustic mode, and it comes thru amp'd. The pau ferro vs maple board? Quizzical. Yet, in my typical voicing of favoring the neck pup with lots of treble ( its rock and roll dammit!), the Valenti has a bit deeper and clearer "throat" to it. I do slightly prefer the wider and longer board of the Lakkie, but it isnt much of a big deal. Both great basses, but the voice of the Valenti is more what I have in my head. Why a lighter bass sounds a bit fuller?? ( pickup height and spacings are identical, yet the string height is a freckle lower on the JO). Huge bene that the Valenti is 1.5 lbs lighter.

Well im taking a chance ....for i have never played these basses b4,,,the specs/quality is what got me..has anyone played a bass with this neck wood config..with these electronicsand preamp...if so can you tell me about it ...i should recive it on thur ...got her in a trade its #24

if it wasn't for the EMGs I would say it should sound very Warwicky.. like a Thumb NT since it has the same specs as a Thumb NT.

The only Warwick I ever picked up at Guitar Center had a neck that was unacceptable to me, so the V might be a CRAPLOAD better than a Warwick!
I mean, I'm sure Nino can cobble a too thick neck out of a piece of maple if need be!
I shouldn't bust on Warwick's, there are many who dig them. I spent some time with the Valenti rigged that way, but none with a Warwick. The Wick was simply too "slabby" to play, so I didnt give a rats arse what it sounded like. The tone on the Valenti was not a traditional jazz tone if I recall.
My guess is that the Valenti will be much brighter if you want it to be. Or just the same if you dial it in.

I owned a Warwick Corvette $$ for a year or so, and while it sounded pretty great for rock, I will always remember it as a bass that took a lot of effort to play. It wasn't bad, but it sounded meaty and it felt meaty. Myself, I would not buy a bass with a neck that thick again. Moving up to a Lakland was a pretty easy choice at the time...
Anyway, my real reason for stopping by....
Valenti #081 got a few upgrades last week:
Removed the Aguilar OBP-3 and installed a Nordstrand 3B-5b.
I love it! Added some "subtlety" that the OBP3 was missing, and it's really cool to have the passive tone control with the active electronics.
Also installed some custom ebony knobs from David at DKnob.com. What a cool guy! He did a great job.
Kept the knobs simple, as I really dig the black hardware on this bass.

Valenti #081 got a few upgrades last week:

Yep, ebony with holly inlay. The finish is a satin urethane finish, so the ebony is totally sealed but looks almost unfinished.

In 2009 warwick changed their neck profiles to a thinner C shape style.
Anyway, that bass is beautiful and I can't wait to let us know how it sounds.

I thought it was more of a "group hug" thing, whereas the whole lot of them thought Wicks were supreme, almost by non-obbjctive standards, since they all liked them. Does that make sense? Suppose it's marketing 101, get people to start talking amongst themselves about your stuff, and tis the best marketing there is. But that neck was so gross. I do like their recorded sound.

Hey, I'm likely the oldest dude here. You get to a "KISS" paradigm later in life. Passive with good pickups is all I need, UNLESS I want my J's to sound like P-basses. Then the preamp is indespensible.
I have, however, oft wondered if the Audere preamp is the most tone neutral. It isnt the Aggie, for sure. Then I ask, "well why do you need a preamp again?" And having no good answer, the feeling goes away.

I hope so ...ive owned alot of ...store basses...I even had a short run (endorsement )with spector and the best bass i have ever owned was a bass i picked up on guitar centers used gear page ..i sold it awhile back on tb ....It was a 80 's ns-2a that had the paint completely stripped off of it....neck through .But then I had to move up to a 5'r Now i will never go back to a 4 ive had some nice spectors and Every time i would get one .I would replace the tone "dump" ...i mean tone "pump" pre amp...But what attracted me to the bass was the look of course...but also the woods ...im more curious than anything.On top of that this thing weighs like 11 lbs 34 scale 19mm 24 fret ...Im excited...I will have it wed . I currently have just recieved a artist endorsement with mayones .I havent purchased my bass yet but plan on it in the 6mo's

I am far from a pro,, I will always be a student of this instrument ...I just recently within
the last 5 years went to a 5 string .I d like to think that we (my band) has something that other modern rock bands dont...but truth be told there are so many bands out there
that have ,,,just crazy skilled musicians ..Its hard to stand out. Hopefully when this valenti bass arrives tomorrow it takes my breath away ...Then ill turn down the mayones deal ...and rock the valenti for awhile. From what i have read in this 100 page megathread ..I really do think i will be happy with it..but we will see...
Nino said he built this bass with his old parts dealers. So looking at some of his older stuff there are a couple with some weight. and 24 frets..He also told me to build this bass today to the exact specs it would be 2525.00 and 3-4 months to build. Nino is a great guy ..ansered all questions i had for him
