Oh no... GAS has struck again....

I've been itching to build myself a new bass. Standards are Swamp Ash Body and Maple/Maple Neck.

A friend of mine, who also happens to build killer basses, posted some pics of FaceBook of his creations and this one caught my eye:

Man oh man oh man!!!! What a looker. I've been wanting a red/maple bass since I sold my red "Geddy Lee" a while bask.

Then there's this that keeps popping up on my desktop:

Not to pat myself on the back but DAMN!!!!

So right now, what I've decided is:
P5 body
Swamp Ash w/5A Quilted top
Maple neck w/3A Birdseye board
black hardware
Aguilar OBP-1 or -2 preamp

What I don't know:
Color.. Trans Red or Trans Blue....
Leaning towards red

Pickups...
Either EMG 40DC's or Nordstrand Big Singles
I've been playing my Spector NS-5 and it sounds killer. It's different than the other basses in my collection and I'm thinking that if I go with the 40DC's, I'll have the pickup placement in a similar location to the Spector.

This should be a killer bass.

What do you think?

recieved the bass today,,upon first impression this bass is solid and very attractive the bubinga body // flamed maple top(beautiful)..is nice...this thing is a tank ...solid solid solid...i have never picked up a bass this sterdy..wendge neck // ebony fretboard ...i was expecting to grab a baseball bat ..not so much it has a nice feel to it...the ebony feels fast....the body and neck feel balanced..i have to drop it off to my luthier on my way home to have a complete set up and restring done..i do this to any bass i own..so i wont be able to plug it in untill tomorrow .. however nice this bass is ...it may not be my cup of tea ... im afraid i may be looking for another modulus soon..i still cant wait to plug it in....more soon

This valenti #24 sounds amazing .. feels balanced ....i have to get a modulus ...no offense nino .this bass is a work of art..i just have to get one .i have been gassing for a mod for a long long time....so all valenti lovers after a very vaery good bill of health from my luthier ...new strings and a truss adjustment ....#24 is going up for trade or sale...in the for sale section ....thanks for all the info nino...i wish i could keep her ...i just cant afford both of them

Mike, I havent a clue on EMG's, what does 24 sound like? A Spector?

Man, now I know why coveting a sin, it could cause a divorce over here.

Can you describe its amp'd tone as compared to a tradtional 70's jazz? I'm all hung up on the 24 fret 35" flat azz ebony boardnad Nino's "built like a tank" construction. I'd likely dump the EMGs and have AERO make some 'Fodera-style' pups for it, and a Pope.

STOP!!

nevermind........

I need to get 067 in to the luthier. Ours here is way beyond good and I'd like to see if he can give me a c hair setup.

Through my rig which is a Markbass F1 and Markbass 2x10 and a bagend 1x15..its got some great low end ...i think is due to the woods that are used on this bass....the b sounds tight im tuned down to a on the lowb and there is no wabble at all ...its a nice creamy tone..the emgs sound great ...and im sure its because of the sad pre amp ...but i would rate the sound of this bass above the spectors i have had ....being the bts system or tonepump or haz lab..with both split pickups or soapbar...i think its the bass at that point...it has a mojo to it ...its just a really nice solid...doesnt feel like a toy .bass

I really have to compliment Nino on the necks he's using now. I just spent a couple hours programming my new GT-10B with #51 - I really love the neck. Fairly shallow, nice and flat, just like I like 'em.

Now, that I've finally received my Valenti J5 Bass, I'd like to show off a bit. :D As stated some posts before, it's #69.

Yo Sliza, I know pics are nice. but how's it FEEL!?

I'm a big fan of black with maple. Sedate, yet stylin'.

Wil, indeed shallow and flat. Dont know if 18 or 19mm suits me best, feel as comfortable with either. Same would apply to 34" vs 35".

But ol #024 had me thinking hard. All about the neck you see. Nino knows that if he can secure a 24 fret 35" 5 string neck, he'll have an order from me. That's where I do prefer the 35" scale, with 2 doz frets. This wont be a trad j bass either. More of a "workin' mans" Fodera or Smith. Although J body is fine.

SLIZA. speak to us. Can you feel it!? :bassist: I cant SEE a good bass, I can only FEEL them man!

SirMike and I have worked something out. I will soon have #024. I am stoked. this thing looks like a weapon.

I plan to string E-C with a hipshot key. Nino called me back in a half hour after I left a message at like 9:00 PM to ask what kind of extender key to get as a replacement for the stock peg. this bodes well for the guy. someone buy my G&L and I will order a new Valenti...

+1 for the six.:hyper:
