I'll also add this...
This bass embodies all the good stuff one expects from a Valenti bass.
Great choice in woods and parts.
Great fit and finish, and the fretwork is impeccable.
Flawless playability; I mean, it just about plays itself.
Dan Claro had the action substantively lower than I like it too; so, it's capable of that even though I'm not capable of playing it set that way
Superior work by a superior guy.
I haven't played everything in the world, but, his stuff really is as good as anything else out there that I have played, and I've played some really good stuff.

+1 Chef! Glad you're enjoying it so far. Nino makes a sweet bass that's for sure. And that Nordstrand NP5 is great - lots of nuances.
The bass was up for sale for a few months at a higher price and when lowered sold quickly, so that makes us Vultures ??? I also trust Chefs ears and his opinion may have swayed me on this particular bass... Spot on about the active P versus passive Chef...
geez... Forget the vultures comment. I didn't realize I had to pay attention in sensitivity training to talk about basses. I was just saying (jokingly) let the guy enjoy his bass before trying to buy it from him...

I can also add this:
The GK Neo cabs weren't the best match with this, at least at rehearsal on Thursday.
I did a gig with a 5 piece band today (piano, guit, sax, drums, bass, everyone sings); and took two Baer ML112's and an MBF500.
That was pretty outstanding.
Though I still miss the more open treble response of a J5; the Nord NP5 and the 500k pots Dan/Nino put in this bass clear things up, up there, compared to many a P bass.

I have several gigs and several rehearsals with this guy now.
The last couple have been with an MBF500 and the Baer ML112's.
I gotta say, I like it a lot.
I'm still not sure I can really, for real, bond permanently with a P format bass; but if it's gonna happen, this is probably the one that will do it.
At a hair under 8lbs, it's a nice weight.
Plays fabulously.
It sounds "much more like a P bass" than any of the active P5's I've had. Pre-amps wreck the P thing, IMO, though I'm still toying with maybe trying the Redeemer "buffer in a box" just to see if that...does something I like.
I have yet to really have an excuse to use the J bridge pickup at a gig. Maybe tonight.

Replaced the dead-ish DA ProSteels with new Dunlop nickels, and we'll see what happens this weeks gigs.
It plays out super fine.
Weighed it last night, and it's just a shade under 8lbs....very nice.
Chef - I used to keep a Sadowsky outboard preamp in the signal chain for those moments when I needed a bit more oomph on the fly, mostly to keep up with loud guitarists. For that purpose it worked well but I preferred the sound of the bass without it.

I've had three Sadowsky active PJ's: not my thing.
I also had a Valenti active PJ with the Nord 2 band in it, which was muuuuch better for that application than the Sadowsky preamp, for me and my pref's.
I don't know if the Redeemer works just like this, but if that little bit of active buffering with no tone or gain opened up the treble and made it just a little airier, that'd be what I want.
In other words: "give my P bass treble a little more like a J bass."

If there's a "problem" with this bass, it's in my head-space...ya know?
I was a P-bass player for decades. I got my 1972 Fender in 1974, and still have it.
I toured for the better part of three decades with that bass, and a G&L L2000.
Then, my prefs just changed; it happens.
In part, I went the J route because there weren't good P5's when I hit a project that needed a 5 string, way back in 1993-ish.
My ears just kinda changed at that point.

I was a P bass guy for almost 20 years. it just felt right.... pickup placement for anchoring my thumb, the shape is ergonomic for me, I got used to the bigger neck and the P bass tone just records so nicely as well as sits good in most band mixes.
I switched to Jazz basses for the same reason as you (not a lot of great P5 options) about 8-9 years ago. I do like Jazz basses but for me, dual coils give me most of a Jazz tone and a passable P tone when EQed right and with the neck pickup generally soloed.
I have played predominately dual coils for the last number of years (MTD, Roscoe, Benavente, Spector, Dingwall, Fodera, etc.) and I am confident that will be the case with most of my basses for the foreseeable future.
My Valenti build will be active with Big Singles though. Mainly as I miss having an active Jazz for a couple of different gigs.

Well; that P5 sounded great again last night; "even though it is a P and not a J," lol...
I made a point of using the bridge pickup, a lot, it does a creditable Jaco tone.
An artist/drummer friend of mine said it was the prettiest bass he'd ever seen under stage lights; that metalflake Sherwood green really is nice under lights.

Actually this was a bass I was going to buy but I was concerned I couldn't pull off the 18mm spacing... but I think I could.

I think 19mm is "standard Fender 4 string spacing," and 18 is just a hair narrower.
My Alleva is 19, and it feels a little wide, at first, if I haven't been playing it regularly.
I think the Nord, Valenti and Sadowsky stuff are all 18, which feels pretty good to me.
I don't like G&L and MM and others like them who are narrower than 18, which feels all crammed together, to me.

I have a Carvin PJ coming in for my 4 banger. I'd be interested in hearing the difference between these 2. I'll be posting clips when I get it for sure.
I ended up parting with my Squier VM Jazz V so I do have a hole for a 5er. The G&L MJ-5 or something like this Valenti would be pretty sweet.

I'm really glad G&L did the MJ5; but, I don't dig that narrow spacing.
I'd love to lay hands on one and see if it's sonic goodness would outweigh my string spacing prefs, but I don't see buying one.
