ah, mine were not spinning, just two screws, one raises from the bass side, one from treble. and they don't rotate by themselves. they call it Just-a-nut III (or I had the II? IDK). they make it both in tedur and brass and they look like this:

p.s. this design also allows adjusting them without loosening or taking off your strings

The plastic just-a- nut II was widely known as a poor application that had many failures.
The reintroduced brass J.a.n. 3, as shown in your pic is an improvement that addresses the earlier issues

I recall upgrading the 2 to 3 at my ~2006 bass, but didn't know the gen. 1 was rotating.
it might have been a long time ago since they stopped making it like this?

I believe, the Warwick/Sadowsky modern design (that was discussed initially in this thread) should be closer to 3 than to 1, as it's very recent.

My previous Warwicks, at least the ones I held onto for any length of time, were a 94 streamer stage 2, a 98 Dolphin pro 1 .
They both had the spinners

One thing I don't understand with the Warwick made Sadowskys is why Sadowsky signed off on them building the master built basses. I can understand them producing metro basses on the team built level, but doesn't a master built more directly compete with an NYC Sadowsky as far as price point and quality? Unless this is a way to get higher level Sadowsky basses to players in Europe without them having to pay horrendous import taxes on the NYC basses. That's the only thing I can think of.

I haven't seen it mentioned here, but this particular model also deviates from the normal Sadowsky 5-string specs regarding string spacing - this one is 18mm at the bridge vs the standard 19mm- and the nut width is 1.77" vs the standard 1.875" (or even 1.75" on the Will Lee 5).

Interesting about the string spacing, I did not see that or failed to notice it.

You need to check out current NYC prices. They do nothing under $5K anymore and most $6K or better. The other point is that under the arrangement with Warwick, the NYC shop can only build 15 basses a month. Sadowsky is making more archtop guitars than basses these days.
