I vaguely remember that as well. It's safe to say that Lakland certainly popularized it, or made it more visible at least... since the Dolphin is a comparative rarity and far less accessible price-wise.

I'd play that for sure. You could say I have a thing for the J/MM pickup combo. It's my all time favorite in a 5er.

It really gives a bark and clarity to a low B I haven't found in another pickup. With that, no sacrifice in low end. That's probably why a 34" scale stingray 5 still sounds so great on the low B. Just my opinion.

Never played a high end sadowsky. Played a mij at CME last month, but it was set up terribly, so not a good first impression. I could see it might be great with a proper setup.

Those Japanese Metros are great basses. Too bad, the one you played was not well set up.

A bit depressing, but it's my favorite feeling/playing of the 3. Considering it's price and the price of the others. The DP custom sounds absolute tops. The Ernie ball is built the best, and can do the most tonally. But the weight and neck of the peavey are a joy to play. It's also very versatile and still sounds great. If my skill matched their capabilities, I'd be in better shape!

No shame in that. Just because it cost less, does not mean you have to like it least. Sounds like a smart buy to me. ;)
