Here's an upright bass entry. One of the most killer, unique sounding rhythm sections in a popular band in the last few decades:



He makes it sound like it takes superhuman strength to get notes out of that bass. Such a woody, gritty tone...

I'm not preventing anyone from enjoying anything. Just stating my opinion. Pretty sure what I consider to be the idea bass sound would not be everyone's cup of tea.

You just described bass "guitar" sounds.

What can I say, I enjoy a wide range of bass sounds, but a handful actually grate on me. Lemmy is one, Claypool is another, and while I appreciated his playing, I was never a fan of Chris Squire's sound in the 1970's.

Maybe a bass is just a lower range guitar, but most bassists (myself included) would dial in a very different EQ than most guitarists would, all other things being equal.

Nothing at all, which is what I do when I hear a player's sound that I don't enjoy. Unless someone specifically asks me, of course.
