Did a tasting session this afternoon. Started on a Tibetan pilsener (smelled great, tasted bland) and ended up on a smoked beer (tastes like bacon). Somewhere in the middle they had this:

Lucky Bucket (a local microbrewery and microdistillery) has an IPA that's pretty intense. I thought it was borderline nasty, but now I'm hooked.

Stopped at Three Floyds today and had lunch on my way back to Chicago. She had a Dreadnaught IPA and I had an English Barleywine that I'd never seen there before, and can't find anything of online, either. Now I'm having an Out of Bounds stout from Avery Brewing. In between my car spilled all kinds of transmission fluid and now it's at the shop, but with a good stout all that sort of melts away.
Tonight's selection for myself and the missus. Somewhat unadventurous because it was just a quick Safeway run on the way home:

The Thunderhead: It's easy to throw a lot of hops in a brew and make a hoppy beer. It's a lot harder to balance the different hop flavours and the malt sweetness. This one tries hard but just misses, and ends up a bit rough around the edges. Some beers I drink and say "that's really really good" and some I drink and say "cmon, I can do better in my garage". This is in the latter category, unfortunately.
The Widmer Hefe: Mrs F like this one. It's a well executed Hefe, but a little sweet and a little watery for my tastes. Not bad, just targeted at someone who isn't me.

Wow, I know that brewery. I've had a few beers there, though I don't recall which ones. Tried to get a gig there once as well before my band fell apart. I've been meaning to try that Pliny The Elder beer that you mentioned a few times.
Got a another 6 pack of Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA tonight. Just as good as it was last time except this time it made me take a nap. Now I can't go to bed.
I don't have time to read the whole thread right now, but I'm going to have to later on to get ideas.
The best I've had recently is a quart of Rogue Brewery "Double Dead Guy". I spent as much time just smelling it as I did drinking it. Amazing beer.
Same brewery makes a Chocolate Stout that is just delicious.
My six pack of choice at the moment is Dixie Brewery "Blackened Voodoo" or New Belgium "1554".

Pliny is good, as is their "Damnation". If you don't have plans to do very much afterwards.
Had a saison I brewed this spring. It took about 2 months to ferment since I used Belgian saison yeast and I wasn't able to keep it safely at the higher temps it prefers. It still turned out alright.
Given that I plan on brewing a bunch soon, I need to get about a case or 2 worth of bottles. I guess I'll have to buy more beer! I think I'll try to get a nice stout, porter, scottish, and a nice Oktoberfest tonight.

Kegging is so much less hassle than bottling. I usually bottle a six pack for using as gifts, the rest goes straight into a 5gal keg. There's a small upfront cost for the gas, plumbing, and empty kegs, but it's well worth it in terms of hassle reduction.
I have kegs and a keg fridge, but still don't mind bottling. I can have a greater variety in the fridge. My "cellar" can fit 8 cases of beer, which is plenty. I also tend to be a bit of a beer of the week guy, too. Being a small guy, 1 bottle of higher gravity beer is about my limit most days.
I've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dogfish Head's Bitches Brew at my local Whole Foods. In the meantime I grabbed a 4-pack of Old Rasputin- can't go wrong there.
I love Old Rasputin, but have you ever tried DeMoellen's Rasputin? It's often hard to find, but absolutely to die for!
Homebrew red ale. The czech pils is still in the secondary fermenter. Last store bought I got was some New Belgium Ranger IPA. Ranger's my go-to these days, one of the most sessionable IPAs on the shelf.
