I know what you mean there. A couple of months ago while paying a visit to my friend in Raleigh, we stocked up on Guinness for the weekend. Usually we do a variety of beers, mostly being ales or IPAs, but that weekend we did just about all Guinness. I was surprised how easily the Guinness went down compared to the IPAs and other ales. Finally had Tripel by Westmalle, the standard by which all others are judged. Quite good but I assumed it would be less hoppy.

I bought a Fort by Dogfish Head but unfortunately it was full of acetone so I can't comment on that one.

Maharaja imperial IPA by Avery is delightful! It's almost a spicy piney kind of hop profile. Dugana is also a great IPA by Avery though the hop flavor is in the same vein as Maharaja.

Has a very crisp Sierra Nevada flavor but more rounded from the lager yeast. I agree with this review in Beer Advocate (A-):

A clear lightgolden color body with a two finger foamy white head , lasting a bit and fading to a ring , jagged lacing left, lively carbonation , a really nice looking beer. Aroma is of toasty grain ,bread crust ,floral hops ,honey and candy sugar . Flavor starts with some piny,floral hops followed by a nice lightly sweet toasted cereal grain, honey and I keep getting this light candy sugar hint and flavor in my lips , short lightly hoppy, spicy finish , moderate bitterness , moderate sweetness . Quite sessionable . I drank this the other day on a very sunny , nice spring day and it REALLY hit the spot , was better than expected , A very nice offering .

well being a college kid on a budget, its about quality for the price. around here stroh's and black label seem to be king unless you head to one of the frats who tend to have really cheap mainstream ones.

however, you do get lucky sometimes, and one of the frats had some redwood (local microbrew) on tap one night, or some of my friends have better tastes and get Leinenkugle's Sunset Wheat. Very nice flavor, that one. Some good berry undertones IMO.

Picked up a Unibroue sampler 4-pack at Trader Joe's yesterday. 4 strong (8-9%) bottle-fermented Canadian ales with unpronounceable names (Don de Dieu, Fin du Monde, Maudite and Trois Pistoles). Beautiful stuff.

I liked this beer also, and agree with most of this description.
