For me there were the Flat Duo Jets, then The White Stripes... in time there will be another in the same vein and I'll like them too.
IMHO music doesn't have to be polished or be performed by a friggin orchestra to be good.

Bummer. I've always like them. Really dig Jacks vocals and the Raconteurs are cool, but I prefer the Stripes.

One of my favorite bands of all-time was bassless.... the Oblivians
Can't say I'm surprised. I also thought they were done. Will miss them though, they're one of my favorite bands. Don't really care about the mistakes they do. They were as much punk as they were blues and the did it with guts and lots of soul. Their concert was one of the best in my life and i saw quite a few. 90 minutes of pure energy.
Jack has been doing a bunch of other stuff; so, while I will miss the Stripes, it wont be too sad.

You beat me to the punch. My take on them has always been a blues band with a punk ethos and no qualms about sonic experimentation.
I dug them. A lot. Especially live.

We are bassists, but first and foremost, we`re all music fans. Against my better judgement, I really liked the White Stripes. The logical side of my brain always screamed out that they were horrible, that their discs were abominations that should be destroyed. But something about them spoke to me on a different level. I liked them. Loved them, actually. They didn`t have this effect on everyone; most either loved or hated them. But, all things come to an end. The Raconteurs actually are the better venue for White, anyway. Hopefully, he will throw himself full-time into it now.
I liked them, but I didn't go out of my way to explore everything they did as a band. I'd have liked to see them live at least once.

I am trying to find even one thing I like about this band (seeing how they are so critically acclaimed) and nope....there's just nothing there. Sounds like my 13 year old neighbor's band that are so bad they can't even attract a bass player.
Of course, they have sold 5 billion records and I have probably sold 70, so they MUST be much better then me!

this. when a band that i don't really dig is loved or really appreciated by people by friends that aren't musical idiots it makes me interested. like perhapppppps i'm missing something.
also never really listened to a lot of their stuff.
although the stuff i heard was more the hits, and there was some catchy in there.
