The White Stripes Announce Their Break-Up

I dug them alright, but the documentary about them (had a ton of live footage) made me really appreciate them. Some music/musicians are just far more awesome live, and they looked to be one of those bands.

I couldn't care less if they didn't have a bass player. Good music doesn't care about what instruments made it.

true dat. i WILL listen to some stuff i might not otherwise if i like the bass playing, but Blood Red Shoes has some cool stuff (It's Getting Boring By The Sea is a great track) and there is a LOT of music out there without traditional bass playing that is crazy good.

The sad thing is since they made it big, every original band in Detroit was a poor copy of them for about 5 years. If you think the White Strips are bad, imagine a bunch of drunk talentless teenagers trying to sound like them. :p

Come to think of it, that is not hard.:D

Maybe Jack White with...Jack Black!

The Tenacious Stripes!

:D

I would love if they turned this project into an HBO series!

I'm pretty disappointed in this news, but not really surprised. De Stijl is one of my favorite albums ever, so bluesy and soulful.

The Raconteurs never did it for me. The Dead Weather is pretty incredible. The Black Keys have no soul or originality by comparison.

Jack has been doing a bunch of other stuff; so, while I will miss the Stripes, it wont be too sad.

lowsound

I heard he was workin with Wanda Jackson..which I thought was.....different.

I can't say I'm a fan of the stripes..in fact, I down right cant stand that Icky Thump song. The first time I heard it, I just went into a rage..for no other reason ..just the sound of that song.

But hey, thats just my opinion. YMMV

I love the White Stripes...well, Jack White is one of my favorite musicians, so I really dig his other projects too. White Stripes albums were all over the place, didn't have a cohesive sound, so I can see how a lot of people don't like them. But most of their songs struck a chord with me in a good way, I think Jack is one of today's innovators, and helped bring blues back a bit into the mainstream. Seen them live a couple times, and that's where they really shined...so much raw energy, vs. so many bands playing a canned concert that's exactly the same every night.

For me, this sums them up perfectly. Sloppy, sure. But certainly punk, and unique.

I can dig this :bassist:
I was never really into them. Although the songs on the radio never made me want to explore what they had to offer. That duum dum dum dum dum duuum dummm song makes me sick.
Recently, I did get get into The Black Keys. I really like dirty fuzzy blues rock with a touch of soul.
We should be talking about how ISIS broke up last year. Now that is a tragedy :crying: Well for me anyway :p

Boo on all those who felt compelled to post in this thread just to bash on a band which they know others like. No different than going into a thread about KISS and bashing Gene.

I for one absolutely love The White Stripes because of their energy, and soul. They refreshed and validated my musical taste, and inspired me to remember that playing with passion is more important than playing some perfect timed licks. Some people seem to drool over those bands that display the ultimate in technical skill and complex composition, but are to me pretentious, repetitive, and boring.

But I am the kind of person who cheers myself hoarse for the teenage garage band kids who are up there trying to rock out, rather than stroking my chin with a scowl on my face, and muttering about how they play this or that wrong. I feel sorry for those people who apparenlty lost the sense of wonder and joy that appreciating music with an open heart can bring.
