View attachment 5382812 This is the worlds Biggest Banjo made by Gibson which I refer to as a "Gibson Banjozilla'. It looks like a Resonator Banjo but much bigger & is pitched in the same range as a Double Bass or Bass Guitar

Am I lost? For some reason, I thought I was on a bass discussion site. Did I make a wrong turn?
These are Bass Banjos, tuned and played like upright Double Basses. They are, indeed, Basses. They just look funny and have some twang in their sound.
I like a little twang*, and I might look funny to some....
*probably not that much twang, though...
I love how they have a very petite woman playing that beast in the pictureView attachment 5382812 This is the worlds Biggest Banjo made by Gibson which I refer to as a "Gibson Banjozilla'. It looks like a Resonator Banjo but much bigger & is pitched in the same range as a Double Bass or Bass Guitar

An old buddy of mine made a "bass-jo" out of a kick drum and upright bass parts. It was playable, but sounded pretty awful.
Twang down in the bass range is, in my opinion, better sounding.
