The question is, how close did the durian candy come to the actual taste of real durian?
It doesn't.
Trust me, I'm Singaporean. Durian is our national fruit. Durian candy is also available here, but I don't really like it.
This thread makes me laugh.
By the way, if you can get around the smell of durian, it doesn't really taste like how it smells. It certainly is worth a try, if you can get a hold of it. Oh one more thing: Generally, the yellower the flesh, the more pungent the smell and stronger the taste. The Thais up north favour nearly-white varieties, which can be quite mild and sweet, but come south to Singapore and try those so-yellow-they-are-nearly-orange types. They taste very sweet, a little bitter, and almost alcoholic.
