I want to try a Caprice so bad. I live a few minutes away from where they are made and have a buddy who does the final setups, but I have to drive 3+ hours away to find the nearest dealer that carries them just to try one out.

Funny enough, EB sent me the last Stingray Tort guard they were going to stock a few months ago. They now just order the guards for you from their supplier, which I am guessing is what your wait is.

The countdown begins. Less than 24 hrs away. It's 10:15PM Wed here in NYC. Delivery tomorrow. My UPS guy comes between 11AM and 8PM. When it's something I could care less about, it's here at 11. When it's a bass, it's 8:30. Fingers crossed.

It's spring break so I took a 2.5 hour road trip down the coast to finally try out a Caprice (and a Cutlass, and 15 other basses!) at the nearest guitar center. Luckily the surf was good on my way down, so the day trip has been well worth it.
Now I need to order a Caprice (and maybe a V4B) And so my wait begins...

Bass has arrived. I've been taking pictures, but I'm not as good as the kiddies with that stuff, so it may take some time. I'm also getting lost in this thing and not even wanting to break to post my update , but I can't NOT do a quick update.
Very first impressions:
Tomorrow it will have it's first gig. A wedding. Saturday, it gets a night of full on R&R. Sunday I'll have more of a review. I'll get pix up when I can.

- It's light. Much lighter than any other MM I own, and lighter than my Jazz. Feels like a little under 9 lbs. I don't have a scale.
- I love the body size. I'm not all that big a guy and it works perfectly on me.
- Seated, I can't imagine this having any neck dive, though I haven't put it on a strap yet. All my straps without straplocks on them are hidden in the mess of my studio.
- I have an immediate pickguard dilemma. The mint pickguard looks much nicer in real life than in pictures. Black one may cheapen the look of the bass. Plus my wife really likes the mint one. I'm in trouble now.
- All this boutique stuff I keep hearing... well... hmmm... I have to agree . It's been a long time since I've had a bass in my hands that felt this well crafted. A Ric is a Ric, though I've come to love my Fenders they just don't compare, and for reasons unknown this particular bass seems a cut above my other MMs. The neck pocket is super tight, the setup is pretty good and there's plenty of room to drop the action, plus it just feels awesome.
- Sound is awesome. Haven't A/B'd with any of my other basses yet, but it sounds full rich and thick, and there are tons of tones in this thing. I don't think any of the Caprice reviews show what's available in the tone control. If the tone knob was labeled 1-10 there would be 10 different tones. I don't own any other basses that do that. They're usually like a 3 or 4 tone deal, if that makes any sense. Highs on or off, with very little in between. This control is incredibly responsive.

After trying one today I totally agree with your assessment. Especially the tone knob. I was astonished at how much variety it offered.
I thought the white (and diamond blue) Caprice's would look better with a tort pick guard on them instead of mint, but I know you don't like tort, and mint usually looks different/better in person than in pics. Looking forward to reading how yours performs on the job, Joe, and seeing some pics. After today I think I'm going to be saving up and selling some stuff for the new natural wood finish Caprice they are making.

Joe, please do me a favor: Tell the good folks at Music Man that they need to make a Caprice 5. I can guarantee that they’ll sell at least one to this So Cal homeboy. I’ll even drive to SLO to pick it up. Peace, bro.
I made an order from GC in Greensboro, NC on Sunday, & then I waited impatiently for the shipped notice...
Cut to Wednesday, I finally call them & they agreed to refund the cost of shipping & throw in a set of Ernie's Balls strings.
Late Thursday afternoon I called again & they had no plans of getting it out that day, saying they had 40 other items in the queue to ship out
So, they agreed to throw it at the front of the queue & I drove up to the Ibanez dealer to A/B a very similar one to my SRX, in mind to cancel the order before it shipped out at 15:45
Well, I could not make up my mind, because I forgot that I have Cobalt Flats on my SRX, which makes it sound beefier than their SR375E.
In summary, I need to get the same strings on them at home to make a real comparison, so I decided not to cancel, after all it's free shipping, assuming they really do refund the cost of shipping (which they haven't yet).
The shipping notice came & I tried changing it to will call, no dice, because it hadn't reached the UPS warehouse yet.
Finally it shows that it's been received, so all I have to do is make the request again... wrong!
GC has restricted it from being set to will call. Musician's Friend does this, and it really bugs me, because then I need to have the shipper make the request to set it to will call.
It's an overnight situation this time, since Greensboro is only 3 hours away. So it's already too late to call GC to make the will call request.
Here I sit waiting for the UPS driver to drive right past me & deliver to the wrong address & leave the package in the rain on their doorstep.
That is exactly what happened with a Warlock bass they delivered about two years ago & the reason I always set packages to will call when possible.
I've got my blinds open so I can see the truck when it presumably goes right past. They very often transpose the first number of the address & it just so happens there is an address with that number just down the road.

I don't have to leave home until 16:50, but I would almost bet money that the UPS truck comes at 16:55 & then I'll have to wait until Monday to get my package, and wait for it all day just like today.
Then again, if I come home to the little notice on the door that they tried to deliver, then I'll get on the horn with GC about making that will call request, which still equals getting the bass on Monday, but on my own terms/time.
