Thicker! Heavier! Lower!

Beat me to it. Lol Can't stand Fieldy's "tone." Now he has an autobiographical book, and according to the description, he's a "legendary bassist." :rollno: :p

Sorry... That was snarky, wasn't it? Lol

5sg.
Are you suggesting that having a tonal range that is either an indistinguishable low drone or an indistinguishable klanky sound doesn't constitute a good tone.

Fieldy could could put Wooten to shame, but with his terrible tone who'd ever know?

how do u guys deal with guitards constantly dropping tunes, and changing to ever thicker gauge, now both monkeys are at 13-62, its really messing up with my lowend and its all muddy.

they are obsessed with getting heavy and heavy and heavy.

what u do? Quit?
I feel your pain. Leave the band and find someone to play with who has the wit to understand that swapping strings and detuning lower and lower does not equate to nor serve as a substitute for musicianship and creativity.

I think guitarists should learn to play heavy in standard tuning or drop d before going lower. They'll realize it isn't always necessary.

Playing heavy is a feel, not a tone, imo. Distorted tone just makes your playing sound aggressive and mean.
