Things bassist hate, Part 2

I used to have lots of pet peeves, but as time's gone on I've stopped expecting everyone to play just the way I want, use gear just the way I want, and behave just the way I want. You'll never play/work with anyone, musician or otherwise, that is the perfect fit to your sensibilities, so you have to make allowances for everyone and decide, as diplomatically as possible, where you draw the line.

That said, the tendency of modern, commonplace speakers and headphones to have tinny, bass-less sound is annoying. Seeing someone revel in a freshly purchased, proper set of headphones is a great experience. It's evidence that's it's not just audiophiles and music fanatics who can notice the difference.

I hate on other bassists that are so far into to the technical issues of basses, and amps, and cabs, all they can do is talk about that crap and really can't get down at all. Sure they can play a little but they aren't kicking any booty. I'm a player not a technician. Those who can play, play. Those who can't do a lot of talking about playing.

for me, I don't like arrogance, especially at the club/bar level...

we are ALL playing in this same crappy bar...no need for the rock star attitude

also hate guys that roll in $1000's of dollars for gear...and then ride the E string. NOT that I don't think this is necessary if the song calls for it, but I hate the "gear narcissism"...

hate when the drummer/guitarist/singer etc get 10 minutes for line check, and for me it is "ok bass player, go....(I play one note)..." ok thanks..."

this doesn't go for bass playing specifically, but I alos think it is funny during sound check when the sound guy has you either sing or play by yourself, and then asks "how is the monitor mix"...I am like" well, I don't really have a mix when it is just me by myslef..."

+1 on the one note soundcheck. Then, after the gig,
you ask the soundguy how it sounded and he says
"I couldn't put your bass in the house mix, it was too
boomy". Maybe check the bass for more than 2 seconds
before the show?
