Things i need to know about amp heads?

Im looking to buy a new amp and i have been looking at amp heads but im not sure what to buy? What do i need to know about amp heads? How do they improve the sound quality ? What should i be looking for at around 500 usd no more for new? Any other things?

Agreed. You really don't want to go amp head shopping unless you know what you're trying to get/improve over your current gear. Way too much variety out there to just pick something.

Amps are just soooo 20th century. I only own some because I'm an old fart who likes to feel the sound on stage.

Where the on switch is, that's pretty critical to know.

They break if you drop them on the floor. Don't do that.

Just plug into a bunch of amps at a store and see what you think. Maybe check out what some of your favorite bass players are using. You can get some very decent stuff for $500.

They go on top of the speakers.
If you put them underneath the controls are hard to reach and the speakers may tip over.

If you're new to bass spend a couple hundy on a nice combo and get your chops down, play a lot with records

If your already playin' with other people go get at least 750Wt Amp + 2/15 cab or 4/10 cab

You can throw them down a flight of stairs and they still work.
