Things I've Learned On Talkbass

If you name any brand of bass or amp there are people who will swear to you that it's the best there is and everything else sucks in comparison.

There is almost no statement that you can make that someone can't find an argument for.

One man's dream rig is another man's Craig's list material.

Jimmy M likes Ampegs

Some folks come to the forum to learn, some come to demonstrate what they know.

Some come to argue, some to look for the answer to an argument.

Some come just to tell everyone that they should do a search. (Almost everything's already been discussed so if this was strictly followed there would be little use for a forum.)

Some come to try to convince others to like what they like.

Some come to sell but pretend like it just happened to come up in their post.

Some come to pitch a specific brand and pretend like they aren't connected with the company.

Some come to see who they can correct.

Some (maybe all) come to dream.

A good way to start an argument is:
To ask if the body wood affects the tone.
To ask if it's OK to play two different types of cabinets (or different size speakers) at the same time.
To ask why every one likes _______ basses (fill in a brand name) when you don't think they are very good
To ask any question that involves the government (see recent Gibson/exotic wood issues)
To ask which is better - flats or rounds
To hate on any brand
To question Ampeg amps or Fender basses
To mention the word Rickenbacker without a worshipful tone
To say a brand is overpriced.

Now THIS is a thread! Thankyou OP! Ive had identical revelations since ive been here, so i rarely add anything to posts (i DO enjoy threads with "trolls" or flame wars for entertainment value). I wont take advice from the "average joe" here because...WE'RE IN A COMPETITIVE BUSINESS, YOURE ALL THE COMPETITION! Ill use whatever Bass brand or speaker configuration i want, nor will i spend a year learning a Wooten solo verbatim so i can post a link of me wanking around to impress the mascots who dwell amongst us..Too busy actually GIGGING and trying to perfect my craft with whatever time im allowed in this world.:bassist:

I highly doubt that my original band in Southern California is in competition for gigs for your band.

Yeah, I have never looked at other bands as competition.....

we are in a competitive business, not talking about bands, im talking about bass players. if youre a notch or two above where i am, and i have an oppourtunity to snatch your gig away from you or take your spot in an up-and-coming band, i WILL do just that. it's not as hard as some people think.
