It’s a Morse code key actually for sending Morse code. I still have mine here, but I sold the dual lever paddle when I got out of Ham radio years ago.
Mine wasn’t as fancy as this but it worked in the same manner.

You don't see Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble hawking Busch Beer anymore.
The one on the box looks menacing. The actual toy just looks sad.
I love this 1966 Kent TV commercial.
It's over 5 minutes long because of different lyrics, but the melody and catch phrase are always the same.
You won't have to listen to it more than a minute to get the idea.

Makes me wonder if that wasn't some marketing exec's idea to get your attention.

My grandfather smoked those-'til one day he lit the micronite filter end.
Yikes! Some Campbell soup exec was taking acid when he thought this would end up on our walls back in the day.

Oh yes. And 1960s anti-smoking ad. I love it.
Coffee can, spit cans. My grandfather in Kentucky born 1895 always had a coffee can spit can next to his couch because he chewed tobacco.
We still use a coffee can outside the studio for cigarette butts.
