Thank goodness! Back in the '70s, you couldn't take one step anywhere near a picnic table without stepping on those.

Those stay-put pull tabs are a great invention. No more tabs littering the parks.

Jimmy Buffet even wrote a lyric about that. :D

I blew out my flip flop,
Stepped on a pop top;
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.

That is a very cool photo. Looks like the kid in the striped shirt might be wearing engineer boots. I can't quite tell.

Another cool thing in the photo are the trash barrels behind the houses. We had one when I was a kid. Everyone would just burn their garbage in the barrel. We called it the burning barrel. There was no garbage service in small towns back in the fifties and sixties.

You also don't see people coming back from the dump with things that someone else had thrown away.

Dad: "Those are perfectly good podiums."
Mom: "We don't need any podiums!"
Dad: "We do if you're going to lecture me about it!"
