You can still get one--just maybe not as often with voicemail & cell phones--but I have heard them a few times over the last year or so.
Speaking of extinct telephone oddities....does anyone remember the 4-way "party line"?
It's where four separate phone customers all shared the same line. Occasionally, you could pick up your phone to make a call, and there might be other people already having a conversation on the shared line. At which point, you'd be unable to dial a number, as the line was engaged. Weird.
