My Texan Grandparents has these! Big time smokers, Grandma was dead at 58 from a heart attack, Grandpa had emphysema, and lung cancer killed Mom.

I saw a young man give up his seat for an Old Womn today which was a good display of manners I think

I don't know if it's a thing you don't see anymore but I certainly noticed it.

Ah yes, back when accident cleanup invariably involved hosing the brains off the car's innards... fun times indeed.

(Edit: Spent a lot of time in the "way back" as a kid myself. Perhaps that explains things....)

I just saw one of these guys on Sunday for the first time this season down at one of the Lake Washington beaches, although his looked more like a converted mail delivery jeep than the breadvan or a classic truck.

I bought plenty from him last summer

...I also worked in a nice Men's clothing store in Yonkers in the mid to late 70s and the thing that impressed me was how pervasive fashion was across the range of ages. The young men's section was full of fancy Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Cardin Euro-style slacks (form fitting, few or no pockets), suits, those polyester, wild-print Huck-a-poo shirts that were so trendy in the discos, etc. Guys would spend tons of money. The general section catered to older guys that wore everything from traditional 3-piece suits to the dreaded Leisure suits. Crazy platform shoes sold along with the trad shoes. We sold lots of jewelry and lots of accessories. We sold a ton of stuff.

Guys wanted to stand out, get the girls, look cool, etc. "Fashion" wants you to believe you can only do that with new clothes. It is a machine thats raison d'etre is to separate you from your money, frequently and consistently.

Those were ugly, no doubt. BUT, what's the deal with the "norm" for shoes being shoes that come to a point in the middle of the front? I have yet to see a human foot that comes to a point in the front.

True, but a pointed toe shoe can be used to make a point.
