Things You Don't See Anymore Part 3

Stores with paid employee check-out. Damn, it's like we all have to check-out everything ourselves when we go shopping. Even Costco is moving to self check-out. Walmart is virtually all self check-out. I get tired of DIY!

(A busy day for this lady.) (Love the cash register! No bar codes here!)

The local WM has a 10 item lane that's also for tobacco products(only lane they're sold), maybe 3 other "manned" lanes, and a ship(sp?) load of DIY's-usually with 2 or 3 not working.:banghead:

You could always support your local grocer with a register employee and pay their wages if you are more comfy with that. Costco and Walmart sell the same items for less from what I gather.
When Walmart moved into our small town it wiped out the downtown area. People want their dollar to go further.

Yeah, certain items I buy at the grocer(Publix in FL), but WM carries a lotta [stuff] Publix doesn't. Some Publix's have self checkout lanes. They're a big PITA. Especially if you're using a "coopun"(as Ron White pronounces it).

It was unintentional but I shoplifted a pack of AA batteries at a self checkout. I went back in and paid for them but I can see where a lot of unpaid items can slip through the door.

If you have been watching the news thieves don't even bother "slipping" out any more . They are walking out with full shopping baskets loaded with 65" TVs, etc, store alarms blaring and when someone comes out to stop them they get punched in the face and the thief keeps moving to load the stuff in their car. It's the kind of world we live in these days.

Employees are told not to confront them.

Lol! Ironically, that picture I posted did remind me that I needed to have a tetanus booster shot at the start of February.

Had a friend who worked at Big Lots. This type of thing happened all the time there. They were told to just go out there and watch what car the thieves put the goods in, get the car description and lic# and report it in. No confrontation. Yep, this is the age where folks have little respect for themselves, much less the law.

Ah! A battering ram built for six. Add to that, the smooth ride that only comes with having 4 inch steel wheels, (similar to the feel you had with the old steel wheeled outdoor roller skates.) o_O

Wooden boxcar racer for six, 1940s:

Looking at the pics of kids decades ago, it makes me wonder if kids nowadays wear clothes that are made for serious outdoor play - you know, getting dirty and grimy; real rough-and-tumble stuff.

The intended use of these Soviet flying tanks probably isn't quite what you were thinking. The original plan for the Antonov A-40 Krylya Tankawas to tow these flying tanks behind aircraft, then glide them into battle to support infantry troops.

Troops would be airdropped in and then the tanks would glide in afterward, at least, that was the plan anyway. The project was abandoned after the Soviets could not find any aircraft powerful enough to tow the crafts, and also due to the significant amount of effort required to land just one tank.

Are you saying this idea tanked?

I’m giving away my age but remember when gas station attendants pumped your gas, checked your oil and tires for 35 cents a gallon, summer and winter, even in pouring rain? Some guys were even smoking a cig! Ha!

Yes it’s crazy that this is happening! Sad that it’s come to this and security guards stand helpless.

I went to work full time in a full service gas station at the tender age of 14. I was paid $1.00 per hour.

I live in Oregon so I never pump my gas. (when in my state)

Hand them my card, "fill it up with..." though I do get out to wash the windshield.
Sometimes when there is no other cars around they will do your windshield for ya, that is all the perks ya get these days.
