Hawkinsville, GA…1985-1998
We lived in a home that had served as the Methodist parsonage from the mid 1850s until President Roosevelt decided that he needed that corner lot for a new Post Office.
That was a WPA thing in the mid-30s.
So, local folk hoisted that home up off its foundation, and rolled it out Dooley St. about half a mile…Just like these guys.
The Hawkinsville folks didn’t have all that fancy gear underneath it…they rolled it along on logs.
Horses did the pulling.
Prolly why there wasn’t a right angle in the whole house!
When we bought it, several Old Folk stopped by with house warming pies and cobblers and told us the story.
They were old enough to remember watching it happen.

The intended use of these Soviet flying tanks probably isn't quite what you were thinking. The original plan for the Antonov A-40 Krylya Tankawas to tow these flying tanks behind aircraft, then glide them into battle to support infantry troops.
Troops would be airdropped in and then the tanks would glide in afterward, at least, that was the plan anyway. The project was abandoned after the Soviets could not find any aircraft powerful enough to tow the crafts, and also due to the significant amount of effort required to land just one tank.

Ah! A battering ram built for six. Add to that, the smooth ride that only comes with having 4 inch steel wheels, (similar to the feel you had with the old steel wheeled outdoor roller skates.)

These episodes really scared me as a kid
With 548 pages, this one has probably been posted already. I don't know. I was watching some old episodes of Mannix and saw pay phones. WOW! Those are gone!

Wow! This one must be located like in a Sun City or some other controlled area. It’s the most beautiful and clean booth I’ve spotted in many years.
They’re still out there, but of questionable status. Most of the ones I’ve seen have been defiled so bad, they should have a Hazmat team to disinfect it first.
