Please elaborate. What is that?
I wish I could get my hands on one of those. That would make for an awesome noise show. The Evil Eye optical synth is not all that old; but, I do not know if they are still made or if they caught on with the general public.
Vinyl records use grooves on the disc to encode the music. But not the Evil Eye optical synth by Belgian collective Indianen:
Instead of cutting grooves onto a surface, custom software allows the artists to design and print black-and-white waveform patterns as PDFs, which are then screenprinted onto 12-inch optical discs and played back on a turntable using specialized light-sensing hardware instead of a needle. The waveforms can be either shaped manually in the software or imported / modified from existing patterns.
Aside from producing audio artifacts covered in beautiful, arcane-looking waveform mosaics, the project's optical disc system also allows for a unique kind of musical performance. By running multiple turntables and alternating between different "tracks" on the disc using the handheld optical sensor, an impressive range of improvisatory possibilities arise.

The Dictaphone Telecord and Edison Telediphone
That reminded me of this flying car. The vehicle pictured is an X-PAK 400, created by Invalid Link Removed in the early 1960s during the Battle of Air Cars

.Powdered bleach is still available.
I would buy one for the same reason. Cars are boring these days. I remember when I could tell the year, make, and model of a car from a block away.Reponded to the amazing photos thread thinking it was this thread. So I'll Richland from there anyhow.... and repost:
That post reminds me that one of the things you don't see any more are new, cool looking cars. I saw a new Maserati yesterday. It looked like every other boring car on the street. 90% of the cars on the street are 1 of 6 boring black gray tans or white... no new cars look like the futuristic cars they drew pictures of in the 70s. All cars, for the most part look the same. That's why I had to buy this:

And just about everyone who sees it asks me why I chose that color. And then does one of these.
