1966 Russian Cold War Sea Plane. This thing was a monster… The massive ekranoplan was powered by eight (yes, eight) jet engines and had an incredibly massive takeoff weight of 544 tons.
It flew 15 feet above water at 250 mph. It was fitted with 6 P-270 Moskit missiles that were designed to take out NATO battle groups when nuclear-tipped.

Boy, I must live in a sleepy old town. Not only do I have a local hardware store that sells balsa gliders by the register, but just up the street, there is a gas station that will pump your gas.

Any idea when this was shot?

Here's the story (see link). Evidently it was being stored at a naval base 100 km away and they floated it down to Derbent to beach it, with the intention of building a museum around it.

PS, I already looked for it on Google Earth. No luck.

I saw this on the Military Channel. It was built and tested during the height of the Cold War and Russia designed this monster to fly 15 feet above the water at 250 miles per hour basically making it fly under the radar. It could carry nuclear weapons and military personnel/equipment and could reach almost anywhere undetected. Well except for the massive roar of all of those jet engines but by then it would be too late.
