Back in my middle school days, the mean kids with money would call these “Buddies” and rag you mercilessly for wearing them in public.

Nuts to them. Kinney made a model of sneaker that fit my feet perfectly so every year for ten years or so I'd go to Kenney's take off my sneakers and say, "Give me another pair exactly like this." I'd put them on, they'd fit, I'd pay the $40 or so and walk out.
