I did not get to enjoy the displeasure of cafeteria food. It was an extreme rarity I could get a hot cafeteria meal. I took a bag lunch to school from grades 7 - 12 99% of the time. Usually a sandwich and a Little Debbie cake or Tastycake and I would buy milk at the school. When I was in junior high school, the brown baggers were not permitted to eat in the cafeteria. We had to go to the gym and eat in the bleachers. Nothing like the stench of sweat while we ate. When I got to high school, the building was new and everybody ate in the cafeteria. There was even a record player built into the cafeteria wall with a a sound system in the ceiling. Kids would bring albums in and play them during lunch. We would rock out to Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, etc. at lunch. And of course, the pizza was rectangular...

Rhetorical, but also not: What the hell???When I was in junior high school, the brown baggers were not permitted to eat in the cafeteria. We had to go to the gym and eat in the bleachers.
What possible justification could an administration have for that, short of simply being jerks??
In college, our fraternity had a rule to stand any time a lady entered the room. Much of the time, it would embarrass them, but most would just smile.File under "things I was taught as a young man."

Agreed. I saw "Ghost Story" in the theater and still enjoy it. We watched it last Halloween, in fact.

This post is a couple of years old, but I'll just quote myself since it's worth repeating:In college, our fraternity had a rule to stand any time a lady entered the room.
Yep, the female dorms at my university had the same rule. Males were not allowed past the living rooms & kitchens at the sorority houses, either. This post is a couple of years old, but I'll just quote myself since it's worth repeating:
Our school had rules that if a male student were to call upon a young lady in the women's dorm, there were only certain hours during which he may do so. Furthermore, said male visitor was to pause at the top of the stairs and announce in a loud voice, "MAN ON FLOOR!" so the ladies would be able to close their doors, or take whatever other steps might be required to maintain their modesty.
I said something along these lines elsewhere, but I'll note it for the record here:Agreed. I saw "Ghost Story" in the theater and still enjoy it. We watched it last Halloween, in fact.

My grandparents always had a bag of the dried prunes in the fridge. Right next to the prune juice. For the 'gentle persuasion', of course.Nobody I knew ever ate those nasty-[bleep] prunes.![]()

I'll never understand what it was with prior generation(s) that so many of them needed so much extra "persuasion" to go take a crap. For the 'gentle persuasion', of course.
