#17...we had a very similar dishwasher that wheeled out and connected to the kitchen spigot. Had to make darn sure the connection was tight or the whole kitchen would flood.

I remember when desk top electronic calculators, (with nixi-tube displays, years before LCD displays existed), first became widely available. They had only four functions and people would use them but would then verify the accuracy of the results of the calculator by performing the calculation using pencil and paper just to make sure it was correct.

When I was in high school we had one electronic calculator for the entire school that was moved around on a large wheeled cart. We would enter square root calculations and such, and wait what seemed like minutes for the results to be displayed.

These new calculators are forbidden in my math classes. We have an adding machine at home.

The adding machine at the upstairs desk was analog, if I recall correctly. I definitely recall a lack of household joviality when it is time to do the books.

Whatever kind we had, I recall the long, curved handle on the side, and the "KER-CHUNK" sound of it being used.
