I got those binoculars when I was a kid as a bonus for delivering newspapers. I still have them
V M Corporation of Benton Harbor Michigan spindle adapter. They also made Voice Of Music record players and other similar equipment. I have an old Voice Of Music tube amp from a record player that I will convert to a harmonica amp one of these days.

Well it was urban for me, but not metropolis type.
And as a kid I knew white collar guys who drove trucks, but some grew up blue collar.
Definitely an indulgence for some though.

I had one of these until 2017 and we moved to a house where there is no phone service. Mine had a pink cord to plug it into the wall.
Anyway, it was barely working when we moved so I tossed it at that point.
Circuit City - I worked in Computer Operations at the corporate headquarters there. 6pm to 6am shift, 63 degree temp all year long, 3 days on, 3 days off. The ONLY good part of the job was that there was a Kristy Kreme donut store a few blocks away and they had hot donuts at 2am.
