Lol! I think you might remember this joint. The modern “scene” back then to get your 80s vibe going. The place to meet your Pretty in Pink girl during that time.


I've actually never heard of that one, but then again, nightlife (discos, clubs, bars) has never been my bag, even when I was a young man.
 
Not as weird as you might think. It's been fasionable for 50 years or more to sneer at the Welk band, but if you actually LISTEN they had some superior musicians. It was trying to stay "relevant" in the 70s that had them doing the real cringeworthy stuff; had Welk just embraced and doubled down on being square, a lot of ridicule could have been avoided.

But Johnny Hodges was a master of melodic playing, and he didn't care what anyone thought of him. Welk wanted a melody player and he was paying. It's some basic strings arrangements. If not for the Welk name attached we might think of it as a less successful version of the Bird with Strings album.
