Gee I wonder how that connection could have been made.:p

Believe it or not I actually had a stuffed teddy that looked like that. It was called a 'Sambo' and or a 'Golliwog'. My sister and I realized what we had when we hit high school. My mom was mortified when she realized how racially derogatory it was. I honestly don't think she knew. It was a common toy in England. This is one thing that I'm GLAD you don't see any more of.

Yeah seriously. Good thing neither one of us really liked that thing, so it never left the house. Can you imagine how bad that would have been if I brought it to school in kindergarten? Actually, it kind of scared us when we were little. But it wasn't until we were much older when we realized what we actually had. Then we flat out called out my mom. I honestly think, she didn't really know what it was. She didn't grow up here and my folks didn't move to the states until 68. But imagine, if my mom decided to put that thing in my stroller and cart me around in 1970? :atoz: :hmm:

Seven Up Candy Bars. No, they were not made with Seven Up soda pop. I loved these when I was a kid and could buy them for 5 cents each or 6 for 25 cents at the local drug store candy counter.

The Seven Up Bar was like getting 7 different candies all in one bar and it consisted of 7 separated, filled sections connected by an outer chocolate shell. The shell was real milk chocolate, a bit thick on the edges, but thinner over the fillings. The seven fillings were: Orange Jelly, Maple Cream, Caramel, Brazil Nut, Fudge, Coconut, and Cherry; each was so distinct and different that no two bites were the same.

There was a Steak and Ale and Va Beach BLVD and Military Drive in Norfolk VA. I never ate there preferring instead the Grate Steak a little up the road.

Speaking of Defunct restaurants.

My understanding is the chain changed hands several times and never recovered from a salmonella outbreak but in the 80's and 90's Chi-Chi's was pretty good. They had Fried Ice Cream that was coated in Graham Cracker as opposed to the ubiquitous and nasty corn flake Fried Ice Cream everyone is using these days.

Oh, no- I have not seen pedestrians use the sidewalk for ages. I'm equally PO'd when people park so as to block the sidewalk, causing me(the last human to actually walk on the SW)to veer into the street, especially if there's no need to park thusly.

Seven Up Candy Bars...

You can tell how the general attitude of society has changed just from candy bar ads. Remember the hippy era Almond Joy ads... "With Almond Joy, you can share a half and still have a whole?" Then during the "I got mine, you get yours" Reagan era the Twixt ads expounded "Twixt!! Two for me, none for you!"

Granted it wasn't for a candy bar but in the 90's the SlimJim ads finally summed it all up with "Eat me!"

I approve of this post.
