Things you'd say instead of cussing...

Disagree.

Agree.

Besides, exchanging the word can eventually get you out of cussing and/or keep your kids from learning cuss words too early. As a kid, and even now, when I say "Geez" or "shoot", I don't mean the words they came from and most folks who hear them don't think so either. they are more polite.

Politeness is not some thing I'll toss away quite so easily.

That's where "don't say it at all" comes in, for times it's not polite to use it. All in all, you are replacing curse words with another word. You are giving the new word same feeling/meaning as what you initially did not want to say. In internet terms, it's like replacing the 3rd letter of a certaiin word with "1" instead of "I". You know, the TB curse word sensor won't catch it, but we all knew what you meant. so "o" in "shot" is the "1" in the interweb super highway world.

Good point, but I think it's not quite so cut and dry. The politeness or lack there of really depends on which word you use, how close it sounds to a curse and how you say it. I think fake words can be a great way to express displeasure without being crass. "Oh Bananas" and even "geez" are pretty innocuous and since we're creatures of habit, pretty soon you'll be thinking Bannanas and Geez instead of what ever words you might otherwise use.

I see it all roughly the same way that making a healthy lifestyle choice (exercise, better eating, etc) or changing a harmful behavior starts out as something you do in spite of yourself, but can eventually become a part of who you are and how you think.

This reminds me of one of my original jokes: Have you ever had a pair of loafers that slowly bunched your socks up under your heels as you walked along? You know - some sock-tucking loafers?

I've been often made fun of how I speak when I cuss. Whether that has to do with the fact the my Indian accent comes out only when cussing or the fact that it sounds bad I'm unsure.
So I've resigned to a few more primitive sounds
