Things you've learned Posting on TB

What do you guys got?

I learned a few things about live sound dispersion, and the various acoustic techniques commonly used to present the bass to the audience as accurately as possible. Among other things, I learned why it is usually preferable to use more than one cabinet of the same make/model as the other(s), in order to avoid phase issues, standing waves, and related sound reinforcement problems.

I also learned something of the reasons why Bill Fitzmaurice and Greenboy no longer frequent TalkBass, because their attempts to share their cab design and acoustics knowledge with many of us created unnecessary confusion and strife with some of the more traditionally-minded TalkBass members who somehow managed to feel personally threatened by the idea of learning from science. For example, there's the concept of using various sizes of speakers in a given cab, each matched to a particular frequency band, divided up with well-conceived crossovers and/or high-pass / low-pass filters; vertical alignment of cabinets in order to enjoy the sonic benefits of a line array effect; and the ways in which superior cab design takes optimum advantage of the characteristics of a given speaker, etc.

This is a great starting point! Applies to TB and to life in general, a wise sage once said, "Can't we all just get along?" Thanks @40Hz !!

Don't thank me. Those words were those of none other than Cliff Figallo, one of the legendary founders of what's arguably the first major online community and discussion forum The WeLL (Whole Earth 'Lectronic Link) that's still in business till this day. If you ever want to get into some really serious online discussions and/or community building, The WeLL is your oyster.

I threw those in because each online community is its own place with its own vibe and rules of the road. And those two simple rules are something I find myself constantly relearning with each new community I join.

i've learned that many confuse sarcasm and wit....wit and humor.

i've learned that most members are serious about playing the bass, serious about having a life, and serious about the welfare of others (people they don't even know!)

i've learned to identify and ignore some posters who are full of themselves (for no reason except this is a place where we all get to pretend = 'wannabe experts'!)

i've learned that this is mostly a fun place! i like it!

Similar to MM in post #142, I learned alot from Bill FM regarding sound dispersion, matching cabs, stacking cabs vertically, xmax, speaker diameter not having much to do with frequency response, and how nearly all manufacturers of mass produced bass cabs tout the thermal (coil meltdown) wattage rating of their cabs instead of the much more meaningful "mechanical limit" wattage rating which is often about half the thermal rating, which is why their marketing department staffers choose to advertise the thermal rating.

1) Don't be a Dick.....yes, I've violated this policy, but I've gotten better over the years.....no one likes a "Pain in the As@"

2) Just because you own it, or had owned it, doesn't mean you can defensively suggest if this product is for someone interested in it or not....try to stay neutral.....all equipment and music is subjective

3) I like the Carrots option....because ultimately, I don't care what you play or do.....as long its not illegal :)

What do you guys got?
1. There is a wealth of knowledge here.
2. There are many friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful TBers.
3. Tort. is very polarizing.
4. Because I play with a pick and don't read music I'm not a real bass player, or even a real musician and probably don't belong on TB !
5. TB has a bad affect on my bank account, and if my wife sees my recent expenditures she will go BAT S#%T CRAZY on me.
