Thinking about Warwicks - any suggestions

Just to give you a peek, here's a picture of my Warwick Streamer I bought new in 89.
I let it go a couple of years ago, it was solid reliable and sounded sweet.
I played it for going on 20 years.

Wow, what a beautiful Streamer, ive never seen one like that with two jazz pickups plus a Soapbar at the back.. is that a custom shop??? tell me more!

A corvette double buck is probably the most versatile 'wick, though they're all amazing in one way or another. You could go for the rockbass double buck if you don't have the moolah for the german-made. That said, a used German $$ will only run you about two hundred more than the rockbass.

I just bought a 1999 5 string thumb neck-through on an eBay deal for $1400, plus S&H (1500 total). I wasn't prepared by how close to new this guitar looks and feels. It sounds, well, just awesome. Beyond my very bass-ic hobby thumb-ping, but definitely an instrument I look forward to growing up with.

New, they sell for like three times that much. If you do an advanced eBay search for completed sales you'll find a LOT of these have sold for under $1600.

Good luck finding what you want.

I play Warwicks and Fenders. While most live gigs and sessions just call for a p-bass, a great modern Warwick 5ver to check out would be the Streamer bolt-on from the 1990s. Cherry body and two j-style mec pickups. Im on my way to getting a 94 4-string version-PJ pickups and very versatile. Also the Streamer LX and Jazzman series are really top-notch. Buy used-you'll save a ton!

Warwicks really great. I love my Corvette, had a Thumb for a while (Wish I never sold it!). Both of these stayed in the jazz area with JJ p'ups. Definitely play as many different 'wicks as you can get your hands on to see what they feel like. Then check the TB classifieds - I was just in there out of curiosity. Warwicks pass through all the time... several in there right now!
Good luck!

I started off on Fender. Played on an American made 5-string Jazz but couldn't stand how loose the B-string sound. Maybe I just had a crappy one because I've heard some decent Fenders. Since though I have been a Warwick guy! Owned the Thumb Bass (4string neck through and can't believe I sold it . . . mistake I can't take back) but currently have a 5-string Corvette Standard and love it. Can't tell you how many compliments I get on my bass. Sounds EXCELLENT for studios and even for direct feeds. Everyone is going to have their own opinion though on what's the best bass to buy. Just depends on the type of sound that you are going for, your rig, and so on. Also one thing to keep in mind is having your bass properly set up for the gage of strings that you used. I learned this recently. Bought my Warwick Corvette Standard from guitar center and assumed I was ready to go. Then after talking to a buddy took my bass to Link Removed and made it feel and play better than ever before!! But ending in saying . . . I dig Warwicks.
