Clowncatcher said:The amount of people argueing here is unbelievable. First of all the dude just wanted to know how he was slapping so fast. No one asked for opinions. Secondly, I agree that the clip was nothing special and the tone wasnt great but when somone here shows me a clip of themselves doing the same thing then I will listen to them when they talk about that bass player as if he is below them. (I would also like to make a personal opinion that I think speedslapping is a very overused and overated form of playing and I wish bassists would stop trying to slap 500 notes a second just to look like they are impressive. It doesn't suit most styles of music and it causes the bass to sound less melodic which in my opinion makes lead playing quite dull and repetitive. There are some great bass solos which don't use slapping. Look at Teen Town or any other WR stuff. Jaco rarely uses slapping and he is quite possibly the most musically talented bassist ever) By the way I'm not saying I know a lot about music. I'm just a noobie compared to most people here but calling that video crap is a bit much considering I could find a handful of bassists who couldn't play that. I'm not saying musically its a great piece and as I said earlier I am not a huge fan of speedslapping but it takes skill to do that and I would be willing to bet money that if i went up to 1000 people on the street and asked them to play something as impressive as that, I wouldn't get a lot of people who could. Anyway I'm done now so feel free to flame me all you like, as I said I'm not claiming to be an expert it's just a personal opinion.![]()
That's the beauty of the web... "No one asked for opinions"...
followed by unsolicited opinions.
Welcome to TB... where hypocrisy is second nature.
