This guy is a monster

Am I jealous of the people who make Diet Coke because I don't like the taste? ;) :D

The clips Jauqo posted are much better. Still not quite my thing, but heads and shoulders above the first clip.

IM very HO he was using too much neck pickup. Seemed too P bassish for me as far as slap tone, but He may like that. Yay for him:) As far as the playing, he was just doing hammer ons and a few poping tricks. I mean, the guy has chops, no doubt. He could probably mow most of us over as far as speed. Some people really ripped him for the timing. I guess being off by a nano second isn't that big of a deal for me. It was live, so I'll give him a nanosecond or two.

NOW FOR MY SOAPBOX MOMENT. YOU READY? ARE YOU SURE? OK.

I think slap is way overused due to everyone trying to be like their hero (thanks Flea and Victor). I think it's fun and can be used on occasion to spice up a song, but it's usually showboating and gross. The other issue is that most people who use it have poor technique and don't know how to coax a good slap tone. Kids come up to me and ask how to play triple thump stuff, double plucking and the like (i.e Classical Thump Preulde), I show them how on two conditions. 1> That they never use it in any song 2> That they only practice it while on a headphone amp or in the middle of a very large forrest.

I admit that I am a good slapper. Where does that get me? Nowhere! Taste, humility and musicianship get you gigs. I know that this is a technique forum, but remember technique is NOT music, it's simply a means to make music. ROCK IT HARD!!!:bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

after reading all the negative posts I thought "it can't be as bad as you all say", so i clicked on the link.

I was mistaken

Unless that is what they were going for, and I was ment to sound chaotic (which I can also apreciate). but it was not to my liking. Everyones tastes are different, I prefer soething with some groove, feeling, melody or at least one of those things. I found nothing of that sort. Not even speed for that matter, I mean It was fast... but at what cost?

But to be honest, I can't do that either.
...but why would I want to...

....on and on...and on and on... because WE always play our basses in "perfect" time, get over it people. Weather you like it or not, Tetsuo has built a career doing what you DONT LIKE, or do, so be it as it may, our opinions really mean squat about his ability to bring home a check making music for SOME of the masses. He's indorsed by some of the greatest musicians around Akira Jimbo, Dennis Chambers, Vic Wooten, etc. If he's not for you, that's cool, nobody forces you to listen. Everyones always whining about what's musical and what's tasteful, listen, this man has a huge fanbase all over the world! Yes you DO have a right to like or dislike any bass player in existance AND you have a right to voice your opinion of what you think about his playing, great, now you're part of an elite group of people. As I've said before, there seems to be a fanatical cult of guys here who have something against slap bass technique in general......on a bass forum??? Thats pretty whack. The bass has more ways to be played than ANY other instrument period. We are bass players, right? "Why would you want to?" Because you're an Artist?

...but I WAS forced to listen, they held a gun to my head and said "DIE american pig!" and I'm not even american!

just in my defence I love every style of music, and if that was what he was going for well great! I love Les Claypool for example. I also love Fast things, but speed shouldn't be the cost for musicianship. Check out Victor Wooten for example, he's fast but not as a compromise for quality. This was all just my opinion and I'm not trying to oppress anyone or anything ;) freedom of choice ;)

Seriously, does that even seem like a whole song?

Pretty sure its a climax point, keep in mind the length of the clip.

So, you can resume the arm chair quarterbacking.

I thought it was good, sure it was wanking, but given the whole show don't sound like that, I think its appropriate. And I love what the dude said about Vai and Satriani, and then McLaughlin and DiMeola!!!!

I like em all, but I know what game that is! Same $hit, different effects.....well, not quite.......

BTW, I definitely heard Vic, and Oteil, that disorganized on stage, and have NEVER 'faulted' them for it for any reason.

Little man plays big bass - Little man plays big bass!!!!

Have fun learning the techniques though. With a good sense of timing and taste you sir will not only reach the level of your master - but may improve upon him.

As for me - there is something disconcerting when I can clearly see and hear a huge disconnect between the drummer and bass player - and creating tension by playing out of sync was definitely not the intention here.

As for the drummer being great and the rest of the guys trying to keep up

(come on NO ONE can debate that - The drummer is ON - and clearly every one running to catch him - even the keys look paced.)

Guy's gotta get paid right?

Nothing wrong with learning the technique - just also learn to use is wisely.

I have not seen a good movie in a while and prefer movie popcorn to microwave popcorn. So I do think, imho going to the movies just to get some popcorn is good. However, it is expensive. I think unsolicited opinions about popcorn help me make decisions about popcorn.

As far as the bass video goes I see no reason to believe that it is related to popcorn.

These seem unsolicited to me. I do not see the reason in posting a slap video if you are not going to allow some feedback. He started with an opinion and people responded with the same. No big deal. I still like movie popcorn best, but that popsecret homestyle microwave popcorn is good. And I will bet a few dislikes of the video have not shaken this persons opinion on the bassist.
