BassGreaser said:If you think that guy is fast check out Bill Dickens. He will blow your mind.![]()
joeyzaza said:I see what you mean by wanking, but I what I find funny, is that jazzers will label a guitarist like Joe Satriani or Steve Vai, or at least some of their playing, as wanking, but when John McLaughlin or Al Di Meola does the same thing with a clean tone over jazz chords, it's something else all of a sudden.Lol

perfektspace6 said:This is true. Typical snobish disdain for rockers. Although this clip was pretty bad.

jzucker said:What a crock of bull. Good playing is good playing, period.
JustOpenYourMind said:But.. the timing on this clip is definatly off... that's not saying the guy is bad but on that peculiar night that day when he was filmed he screwed up a little bit listen closely...
jzucker said:I was responding to the generalizations/characterizations of "jazz guys".
kelbrihan said:Oh there is such a thing as "jazz snobs" who refuse to play or even acknowledge any other types of music, and it's even worse when those "jazz snobs" started off as rockers or metal guys who were into Yngwie, MacAlpine, Stch, Vai, etc. I know a few and have played with a few.
jzucker said:Bull!@#$
There are more rock-snobs than jazz snobs.
kelbrihan said:Bulls%*t to you! I never said that there weren't "rock snobs", I said that there ARE "jazz snobs" after you said that was a "crock of bull", because I have known more than a few of them. Who are you to say that someones experience is Bulls*#t, and why are you taking up for total strangers? Maybe the guys that I know are a**holes? Maybe they are the exception, but i've talked to others who have said the same thing so I guess that there are some close minded people out there. So stop defending them.
I can agree with that. The bottom line is that we all should be open to all styles as musicians, whether it's our favorite or not. The fact that this guy is good enough to be onstage with musicians of that calibre should say enough about him. Greg Howe can play rock, jazz, fusion and we know how versatile Dennis Chambers is. Bottom line, "a great player is a great player" even if you don't particularly care for the music that that player is playing.jzucker said:I'm only defending against sweeping generalizations. Like if I knew a few white guys who couldn't play funk and decided to post that white guys can't funk out...

kelbrihan said:The "fat chinese drummer' that you are referring to is Dennis Chambers, maybe you've heard of him, he happens to be one of the best musicians on the planet.
oathbass462 said:and that guitarist isn't chinese. that kinda ruins the effect.
