It’s because Gibson is a Guitar Company that also makes Basses, not the other way around. Could they change that ?, sure, but highly unlikely.

I don’t have an argument either way and your opinions are as valid as anyone else’s...just saying that’s one of the least constructive things I’ve read here in a while.
I know for at where I speak on this one. It’s nice and all that but way overpriced. Especially being the Case seems rather dismal. IF your are looking for something like this, the one you want is the “Custom” model. Pretty much all the features of the Artist, without the 9v thing. Fairly hard to come by for some reason. If you ABSOLUTELY have to have one of these, send me a PM. I can pretty much tell you what to look for. Pretty easy to buy more BS than Bass here. Just an FYI.
He should have said "Sells well AND MAKES A PROFIT".... USA S.U.B. basses apparently cost more to make than their sticker price.

The problem is that Orville and Epiphone Elitist (MIJ) series rival the prices of used Gibbys on the bass market. Greco isn't that far behind. While the QC is excellent, they have a different playing feel from Gibsons which may or may not work to one's preference. So for one and only Gibson experience you might be better off with the real thing.
This is coming from a guy who loves his Orville EB-3. The only reason I may decide to part with it someday is its baseball bat neck which is nothing like any Gibson I've ever played, and I've played a lot of them.
If one is into old Gibson basses, they are still beyond inexpensive compared to everything else from the same era.
...owned several Gibson basses over the years (they were useful, but nothing special)... I have a Toby for a backup that is WAY better than any Gibson instrument I've owned... but hey, personal opinion only. YMMV.
They also killed off the Valley Arts brand after buying it out years ago...stupid...
When we recorded our last album 4 years ago, our producer let me play his 1987 Valley Arts stratocaster type guitar. Even with used strings it sounded and felt awesome. I remember how confortable the neck was.
I don't get the point of buying a succesful brand like that and kill her out.
And of course after buying Steinberger they decided they were too hard to build, so they smashed the molds for the XL-2s et al.They also killed off the Valley Arts brand after buying it out years ago...stupid...
Not true. It’s sadly common for a business to kill off a product which sells well, but loses money (or just doesn’t make enough).
As a former Gibson employee I can tell you this is 100% correct.

I'd love a Grabber. I may get one eventually. Buying used for a vintage instrument bothers me not at all.
This doesn't prove they suck at making basses; it proves they suck at making a profit selling basses. I have played Rippers, Victories, and Gibson era Tobies that I thought were fabulous basses.
