this sounds stupid but is it ok to play punk live while sitting down not standing up?

Hey guys. The reason i ask this is because I'm allot more accustomed to sitting down rather that standing up. I typically practice right after i get home from work. I work long weekend shifts at mcdonalds and other days i get home from school at about 7 and I'm usually to tired to stand up. i have grown so accustomed to sitting down and have no time to get accustomed to standing up. ever.

No. It is not OK. And the same goes for rock, soul, funk, country and most other genres. The occasional coffee shop, mellow jazz, orchestra pit or acoustic gig will allow you to get away with that but that's about it. If I were your band mates I would be embarrassed.

Perhaps bass in not in the cards for you until your life settles down a bit.

Oh really. You are saying i can't sit down while playing punk like its a rule of punk, but then you guys say in punk there are no rules. If there are no rules, then whats wrong with doing it MY way? By getting comfortable and sitting on my ass? You play your way, i will play my way. Everyones happy. The audience won't really care anyways as long as i make it look good (AKA not slouching, maybe swinging my legs and head a little).

What some bassists/guitarists do is set their strap so their instrument hangs the same way whether they are sitting or standing so it doesn't interfere with their technique and comfort. That's entirely up to you if you think it looks "cool" or not.

I'm usually sitting when I play at home, but I'm used to changing the strap-length and angle of my instrument a lot so it doesn't bother me whether I'm sitting or standing. As I've written before, I do take time to make sure I don't look like a total moron when I play for whatever I'm doing. I'm not going to be running around on-stage for jazz shows, nor am I just going to stand still at a rock show. Showmanship. Reflect what you want your audience to do.

Again, if I was hiring any musician for my band... I would not go with the one too tired to stand and/or unable to play standing because of poorly learned techniques. Too tired to stand for rehearsals, then I'd guess you'd fall asleep during a gig.

and is there any way to look really cool if you play live while sitting? Pics please.

It is indéniably punk and cool to play bass fingerless from a wheelchair.
It isn't punk to sit because you feel tired after you workday.
Learn the différence op.

Punk music is the exact opposite of getting comfortable and sitting on your ass. It only works if you put all your energy into it.
Are you into this style at all?
