this sounds stupid but is it ok to play punk live while sitting down not standing up?

Sincere advice here: you're only playing a few notes in the whole song which is normal for punk so I would keep practicing the song but every time you play it look at the fretboard less and less until you just need quick glances every once in a while. Once you're comfortable start headbanging a little and moving around the room more. Finally, and you don't have to do this, it might actually be bad for your health, BUT punks tend to play with their instruments very low. Just sayin.

Plenty of folks have pointed out that if you have to ask, you're not punk. But I guess the real question nobody is asking:

If you're not punk, WTH would you WANT to be? Seriously, it's not like this is some noble aspiration. Sure's it's a valid music style, but it's not like "Oh man, I wanted to be an astronaut but couldn't get into Astronaut school. What a wasted life." If you're not punk be happy that you can actually be happy about something once in a while.

I love punk music and I can be a bit cavalier but when I see a good punk show, and I mean a good punk show, I admire the attitude. Also, the Bad Brains, who in my opinion where revolutionary, preached PMA. Punk is not about being unhappy at all.

Ok guys. Listen. I decided I'm going to listen to your posts. Here is a cover of me playing while standing up.

There ya go man. You'll only improve over time. Eventually maybe lower the strap a bit of you're into the punk thing. Either way you sound fine to me while you're standing. Punk does not need to sound perfect.

Yea the thing is that during any kind of rock show, you need to GIVE the energy to the audience if you want them to have any. Otherwise they will always just stand there unengaged, waiting for the finish. That's what the art of performance is all about: getting people into what you're doing. You won't be able to do that sitting down. It just doesn't work. It's trying to get something for giving nothing.

Anyway you're doing great in the video of you standing! Keep it up and keep improving! You'll be fighting off the swarming punks in no time.

Alright, that's it. This calls for a punk bass player intervention. You're doing it wrong and rehabilitation will get you doing it right. We're going to need some volunteers for workshops in "Power Stance", "Snarling", "Down Picking", and "How to Properly Sticker your bass". After that the focus will turn to "Hairstyling", "Spitting: Attaining maximum distance and dispersion", and "101 ways to use safety pins".

Get some rest.

Hey guys. The reason i ask this is because I'm allot more accustomed to sitting down rather that standing up. I typically practice right after i get home from work. I work long weekend shifts at mcdonalds and other days i get home from school at about 7 and I'm usually to tired to stand up. i have grown so accustomed to sitting down and have no time to get accustomed to standing up. ever.

True to the punk motto of think for yourself, it would definitely be okay to sit down. Is it going to appeal to the commercial pop punk Green Day crowds? Don't count on it.

One of the coolest punk bands I've seen, the drummer was using a kitchen chair.

I disagree with everyone saying you need to lower your strap. It is important to play standing up because lots of times at punk shows there isn't much of a stage, you may be playing on the same level as your audience and they are standing/moshing. Since you are performing it would be good if your audience could see you. But keep your strap wherever it is comfortable.
Tim is proof that you can have your strap high and still be energetic and bad***.

Even though it looks cooler, you really *dont* have to lower your strap....

Not gonna lie, but just from that you got 10x cooler in my book. Play just like that on stage and you're golden dude.

And unless you're old or are physically unable to, just stand. Other than that, the only other guys that can pull off sitting down are dudes with big beards. You can get away with anything if you have beard enough to pull it off.

Not to derail, but I just ordered Fear: The Record on vinyl off Discogs last night, and I can't wait to get my grubby mits on it! One of those records I've been wanting forever, but have yet to add to my collection, until now!
