Sor-ry. No can do. I ain't got one :( . Picture Ingrid
Bergman in her heyday...Brigitte Bardot minus the fat lips...
another Brigitte (Nielsen) minus a ½ gallon of hair gel and bad attitude...

Yup. Us Swedish types just cain't help bein' drop-dead good lookin' .

Uhmm...er.. oh yeah,Thomastiks are great strings,he said trying to pull out of yet another tangent. Maybe my user name should be Tangent Boy!!!
No! It's easier (for this Texan) to remember "Willie D" :p .
"Tangent Boy" sounds like some kind of Adam Sandler movie.
...In all seriousness,I don't think there are any stores in my area that carry this brand.
Looks like Just Strings or Mr. Dude's house of strings :) .

You won't be sorry. A couple o' points...if you're heavy-handed,
you may need to tweek your touch. The (round-core) T/I's are
very flexible, low tension. If you're going for string-through-body,
you may wanna' get the T/I "extra-long" scale set (JF364 or JR364).
Not necessarily for 36" scale basses...fer example, those sets worked
fine on my string-through-body Ripper with a 34" scale.
...BTW, I read some more of your profile....LOL "Married Satan's Niece!" Ha! Ha! Whewww, glad you lived to tell the tale!!!
Me too! :) Lawdy, don't get me started ...I chose that
particular phraseology coz of the "goat-like" one's love of
ironic misfortune. Of all the punctures, burns, cuts, bites,
and miscellaneous stabbings, the worst damage was to
my hands and wrists. Like who needs those to play bass eh? :p
Maybe I should take up soccer?...both feets are relatively intact :D .

Very good point Bassgeek! The Thomastik's do take a while to get used to and do get better with a little aging. I remember the fist time I tried them I popped on a set and was very disappointed. They felt all rubbery and I really didn't like the very light gauges (was used to Rotosound Steve Harris Monel nickel flats .050-.110) so it was a big trasition for me. I still use the Steve Harris Flats on some basses when I want to use a very heavy attack but the Thom's now sound and feel great now.

I've also been playing both the Thomastik Infeld Jazz Rounds as well as the Powerbass Rounds and found them to be equally as easy to play with great tone. Most people don't even know that TI even makes any other strings than the Jazz Flats.

I'm not looking to go down the path that people like Herm have and try to compete with the big internet string dealers (I considered buying Herm's business out when he was getting out of it) but rather just looking to carry a few lines that people want and that I personally like for myself.

I went with Rotosound and Thomastik-Infeld. The customer service at both companies is excellent and in the case of Rotosound I can get custom sets made up. I recently had Roto make me up some Black Nylon "Tru Bass" strings in a 6 string set for a client. NOBODY makes a black nylon in 6 string sets but they did them for me which was very cool.

Here's my Rotosound gallery: Bad Link Removed

So those are the only two string manufacturers that I am a dealer for. When I need D'Addario nickel rounds for my T-Bird (The ONLY string for a T-Bird in my opinion) I buy them from JustStrings.com like everyone else and have NEVER had a problem with their service! I can also get the Lakland Joe Osborn flats since I'm a Lakland bass dealer.

LaBella 760N6? (29-128). Still wouldn't use `em...
too freakin' twangy. Gotta' be Roto 88's for tapes :) .

I stand corrected on the LaBella 760N6 set. The Rotosound RS886LD's I had made up are .050/.065/.0.75/.100/.115/.135 and retail for $75 per set but my price is $48.99

The LaBella's are quite a bit more expensive. Totally different gauges however.

Thanks for the pointers Duane. Those are things I should consider before I buy a set.As far as the mutilations are concerned...OUCH!!! BTW, don't use your feet, might be bad for the strings, bass and the environment... Your Rob Allen is very perty!!

Hey Dude!!! How are the Powerbass Rounds? Are those the same as the Vienna models?I was thinking of getting those instead.

I don't know what the "Vienna's" are...never heard of them. The TI Powerbass strings are magnacore windings over a hex steel core and are pretty bright. I'd equate them to the Rotosound Swing 66's or Dean Markley Blue Steels. Excellent choice for slap/pop playing. The 4 string set is well balance with 0.47/.068/.080/.107 string gauges and the 5 string set is the same but with a .119 low B

Hey Dude!!! I saw an ad for the "Viennas" in the latest issue of BP.It seems like these are almost the same except this set is supposed to be nickel plated steel with a steel core...hhmmm...doesn't seem like there is too much of a difference.Anyhoo, they ought to sound great on my incoming Roscoe!!! I'll take a chance on these strings ,I guess it won't hurt to try.(All of you have been raving about TIs so there must be something going on.All these people can't be wrong.)

Otay!!! I can't wait to try them out.Lately I've been seeking to refine my sound and technique.I know that every little factor has an impact . I've been wanting to check out the TIs but I hadn't heard of anyone(until now) who had any experience with them.I don't think I 've seen a store in my area that carries Thom-Stiks;which is ironic considering that there are at least 4 million people in the Tidewater area, and, there are an ample number of music stores too.Well,I'm gonna go to their site and look for the closest dealer.Should be interesting.

Donkey-Shines :). Truth is, that ain't mine. It's from
the Rob Allen site . If I could stop spendin' all my
dang $$$ on string "experiments", I'd get a digital
camera`n click a pic. Figger I'd wait `til my sig
becomes reality  .

Now THAT will be a spiffy avatar  .

(click on "Rob Allen" for the bunnybass interview ;) )

First, I agree with those who said to get the Thom's from the Dude. He's a straight-up kinda guy.

Also, it'd be cool to have a few more guys dropping in at the Dudepit, which is a cool discussion board.

I was a much more active participant in the FDP until the Dude and the owner of the FDP had their little tiff. Bottom line for me, after some correspondence with both parties, was that I had to pick one to believe. Went with Dude. I'm convinced that he's OK.

On the original subject, I have some TI's that are now probably six months old or more. They're really getting good. I had a problem with the E, it never sounded right, so I got ahold of Connolly and Co., the U.S. distributor. They replaced it. This was when they were maybe three months old. Replacing a three month old string is what I call standing behind your product.

I just got an e-mail from Connoly and Co.I 'm sure I told them how a good number of members on TB are raving about their strings.Hopefully the btochure and the dealer list will show me someone who is within a reasonable distance.Maybe I can convince on of these music stores to start carrying this brand.I getting a new Roscoe bass and I want to use the "best" strings on the market.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I just put a set of these strings on my L-2000. WOW! You know how we talk about trying to find that sound we hear in our head? I think I just found it, or at least one of the sounds. These strings sound tasty with a bunch of different settings, but I think my fave so far is passive - series - neck pickup.

Sure they're a little pricey, but you can't put a price on tone like this!

I've never used flats of any brand, but are these TI flats similar in tension to roundwounds? If I tried flats, I don't think I could handle the tension (I usually play DR Hi-Beams which are pretty low tension for rounds).

The TI Jazz Flats are a little lower in tension than the DR High Beams.

TI Jazz Flats sounded good on my Jazz but not my 51P RI with single coil pup. I use DR High Beams on it.

I may try TI's on my PJ bass. My only complaint with them is the E is a little floppy for my tastes.

well, I put the the TI Jazz Flats I had laying around on a New PJ bass that is a top loader. They did not seem to be nearly as floppy as I remembered on a Jazz Bass I had. They sound very good on a P bass but pretty much nullified any effects the J pup at the bridge contributed. I raised and lowered the pups and only made minor difference. My conclusion: Awesome for P bass top loader, but I am going back to Rounds on this bass. I had D'Addario's on it and they sounded pretty good. The TI's were louder sounding on this bass than the EXL's that were on it. I am going to try some Boomers I had put back next, then maybe a set of Elixer Nanowebs I have never opened for use.

I use these on my victor bailey jazz bass and my old 65 precision...they sound fantastic on both. They are LOW tension and require a soft touch. If you want to hear the tone go to bassplayer.tv and watch the Carol kaye interviews. She uses them w/ a pick. According to carol most of the LA studio players used them in the 60's. I'll never go back to rounds...these will do whatever you can get out of them and give a very pleasing sound.
